I like the hydroboost. If the 87 was not already converted to vacuum, I would install a hydroboost system. It still may get one down the road. My 85 is hydroboost and it has performed flawlessly as did the 85 GN I had before this one.

tb3 installed one...now, I don't think he has ever, or will ever, drive his car.  It is mainly a prop for his photo endeavors.

Lotsa astrovans and others with hydroboost.

Okay, now I will show my ignorance. Is hydroboost changing it to a system like out of an S-10?? I thought I read about that before. I'll have to start doing some searching on the issue and get educated. I take my wife and son alot in this car and I dont need any braking drama.

Thanks guys!!

Hydroboost is the system used on the NA 84/85 turbo Regals (and other GM trucks, etc) it uses the power steering pump and pressure to provide the boost for your brakes.

I converted to vacuum a few years back and haven't regretted it for a moment.

We were replacing Powermaster crap annually, and the vacuum conversion completely eliminated THAT problem.

We got out setup at MP Brakes complete for under $400.  We don't have any junk yards nearby, so this was the best way to go for us.

I haven't used vacuum brakes but I will say that Hydroboost is much better than the Powermaster was. I have only logged around 30 miles on my hydroboost so far but it works great and I can safely compare it to newer car braking.

87 Turbo T - 4.1 484 block bored .030 over, Champion ported irons with ported intake, RJC power plate, Elgin 214/224 cam, 6776 turbo with RJC boost controller, stretched SLIC, 3\" THDP, Pypes dual exhaust, 4\" MAF pipe with 14\" K&N and Z06 MAF, 60# Mototrons, hot wired Walbro 340 with KB-BAP, Translator Gen 2 and Extender Extreme chip, Mike Kurtz built 200-4r, PPC 3200 stall, UMI upper and lower control arms, passenger side airbag, any hydroboosted.

20# Boost at 20* timing on 93 octane. No track times yet.

Alky install in progress.
