New Paint!!

Car going in end of month for a new paint job!! Super fired up   Should be in there about a month, worked out a deal where I'll do most of the remove and reinstall work to save cost. He estimates between $6,000 to $7,000 when done.

Water based paint, epoxy or single stage?

The blackest of black is the single stage but it also is the greatest cost and the sun beats the crap outta it if you leave it outside all the time.

Epoxy is pretty rugged; I could never deal with the hues, most people never see them you may be one.

Water based is neat but really not sure on the longevity of it from the aftermarket at this point.

Sean would know more on this stuff.

Either way should look pretty !  !

I believe any shop that has to face OSHA is spraying waterbase by now.

there are no "real" rules on paint yet...the VOC limits are self regulated.. and based on the overall system. .but you must spray in a booth unless it is an exempt product. It is actually very confusing as the DEP is involved...OSH A only care about safety and not the air quality. Water based systems have been in use in Europe for years...actual ly it is only the color that is water based the clear coat is still a 2k urethane. There is no single stage water based products. In fact most paint companies are doing away with single stage urethane products or at least streamlining the sku's. Epoxies do not have the flake control and not really used in automotive refinish as color selection is limited. Todays single stage urethanes are nothing like the single stage enamels...I painted my GN in Glasurit 21 line with high solids hardener 14 years ago and it was stored outside and abused and it still shined like the day it was painted when washed.

Not sure what system he will use, I'll find out. Always garage kept. OSHA woud only visit a shop if someone got hurt really bad, or if it was a huge place with 100 or more employees. They dont really care about the "little fish". Delt with them in a previous job....to much

Started disassembly today for upcoming paintjob, Good lord they love 2 sided tape at GM. Getting the trim off around the door was a major bitch, trying not to kink anything! Back to work!

If you are talking about the side molding, get some dental floss not the Chinese stuff as it has grit in it and will cut the metal. And use it to cut the tape .

That came off fine, It was the trim piece behind the windows, hidden screws, 2 sided tape, they did not want that piece falling off .
 
Got it all tore down except for the front bumper dismantle, will get that tonight. Back spoiler was kinda a bitch getting to the nuts. had to take the latch off to get to 2 of them, and then when I put it back on I forgot I tucked the little arm that goes from the lock to the latch out of the way, so I didnt put it back in....shut the trunk    That was a panic, oh shit moment. Had to chisle off a rivet that holds the lock keeper in place, then stick a long screwdriver in to pop the latch.......lu cky!!
 
Screws on the back wheel trim were kinda stubborn also but all in all went great fo a 25 year old tear down.

I dont remember anymore, got them on line. They are meant for a mustang, so I needed adapter/spacers to mount them

Just finished putting it back together last night, along with working on the vacuum brake conversion ( see other post ). 100 degrees and 70% humidity has slowed the progress considerably. Will post some pics soon!
