Whats everyone do to keep sane in the winter?

Outside in the cold is pretty uncomfortable for me still so I tend to stay in for the most part.

Gaming was my go to, but after these laser procedures and release to my right arm: things aren't the same. It's been over 18 months now and its still really sensitive, and I've got about 45 minutes of fine motor control before my hand goes numb.

Any ideas?

Have you tried banging various random late teens / early 20's?


finding a free hottub on craigslist will help speed things up too.

find a big, heated shop that you can move the family into for 5 months!

Take some online courses in things that you are interested in.  Read....lotsa interesting history out there that they never mention in our schools.

Get some old school games like Zork that tax your mind and not your body.

Try some vr games...they should start getting better.

Learn to cook or maybe, learn to cook something new if you are already cooking qualified.

Volunteer and help those that have been burned badly or go talk to hospital bound kids...

Be4u - I have a pool table, its currently a changing table for my son. No alcohol for me at this point....

Earl - that would be a quick way for me to become homeless!


Steve - I'm going to be working with the Phoenix Society in their SOAR program (https://www.phoenix-society.org/our-programs/soar) but the closest hospital that participates is 2 hours away. I like the learning part but with the meds motivation and concentration are pretty much out the window at this point. I might try linux academy for a month that will kill some hours but the previous point still stands.
Hell I should just come stay with you Steve - I could crack the whip and supervise on your projects  :rofl:

Winter is when I do most of my wrenching. Too hot in the summer and the garage gets to a decent temp.

For the last few years I spent my time making babies; but, was mostly successful around my anniversary - in June. :/

Mostly I just wrench as much as possible.  Being creative and solving problems usually leads to me self-educating (when I'd rather be self-medicating).

The rest of my "spare" time is usually reserved for professional development.  Which, once I get into it, can become pretty involving.

However, this Christmas we are going to do a little home theatre work - starting by buying a TV!  But, there will be some home reno projects too.  Improving/personalizing your habitat can be very rewarding.

Oh, and make extra time for friends and family; joining a club can be rewarding too.

Its to bad the cold dosent agree with you....snowmob iling is a blast.....I get through summer with the GN , much prefer racing sleds

Snowmobiling in Northern Ontario gives hrs of of fun riding like a retard on crack. The cornering and acceleration compares to nothing.

Takes me a week to recover cause I'm old and we ride 150-200 miles a day.
