Steering wheel
« on: May 18 2011, 12:27:01 PM »
My wheel is pretty rough, I did do a repair I found where you can fix it then paint it but it dosent hold up. I also dont like the "skinny" wheel. Is there anyplace that a guy can get the wheel recovered, with some added thickness, that will still look factory. I dont want just a grey leather wheel cover, it came with one of those hiding the issues but I dont like the look of a cover.

Thanks for any direction

It ain't skinny!  You should try a '50s Ford!  :)

There are places that rebuild them, but, I don't know if any offer anything larger than stock.

Most of them specialize in stock rebuilds with the wood or the rim blow style...

don't know if this guy does what you want or not

That's he Dave. She does nice work and it isn't cheap but it seems to hold up good from the guys that have gotten it done. :supz:

Thanks guys, I looked into all options, the "e-bay" lady seems to be the only chance of getting the wheel modified to a larger grip. She needed to discuss with her husband as at this point I am the first to request it so it will be a new thing for them. I thought maybe others would be interested in it on the forums??? If they are willing and it works out I'll post pic's and feedback.

Anyway, thanks for the help guys!!!

Mark rules- I've gotten centercap logos and a console applique from him. His work is second to none.

I have those center caps in the driveway. I will have to get with Mark, there's one missing. Having the receipt will make it easier to order!

Pretty lucrative, I would think. If you are good at it, and have the right equipment. That's the big expense though, equipment.

Just an update. The "e-bay lady" is going to give it a shot making the grip larger and rewrapping it. They have never had the request before?? GN drivers must have girly hands :D  Anyway, I'll get a pic today before I pull it off and then one of the finished product and post up later. they said about 10 day turnaround and quoted a price of $235, I thought that was pretty fair.
