General Buick Tech / Re: Coil or Module on Power Logger?

  Just a Six

The guy at Injection Connection said that injectors that had set as long as mine were nearly always bad. He said that used injectors out and on the bench are good for days or weeks only. He said the next time mine sets to build pressure in the system once a week. Or try to.

it just smelled like Gas real strong.
When I started mine, it had set for 23 1/2 years. Probably not started for 2-3 yrs. It started right up and was rich as hell.

Because it would not hold fuel pressure, I changed out a new pump. It turned out unnecessary.
I pulled the injectors and sent them to Injection Connection. They test every injector they get. Mine all failed every test. My injectors have not been available for over a decade, so mine were rebuilt, flow matched and tested. The tests before/after are included w/injectors.

My have only good to say about them. They were recommended by a life long friend who is into competition turbo v8's.

I should stay out of this, but I just went though it with a friends motorcycle. He is a good mechanic but did not have enough age to understand 2 plug per coil waste spark.
ON A MOTORCYCLE these systems do not fire the plug to engine ground. The secondary coil circuit is not grounded. The 2 plugs will erode the electrode on one plug and the ground strap on the other. If either plug cannot complete the circuit, the coil will quickly fail.
2 plug waste spark is the oldest battery ignition system and only requires an even number of cylinders.
edit-only requires an even number of plugs, as in 2 per cylinder.

Does the oil in the one car smell burned?

I paid cash for my gn in 1996. If I had instead invested the same in the S&P, I would have $75k. Without counting dividends. That would have been leaving it in through 2000 and 2008. This is easy to now calculate.
I am selling. I sold one property last year and have 2 to go. If I catch the need or desire to own real estate as an investment in the future, I will buy a REIT. Probably as an ETF. Easy/quick in/out.

Certainly, the easiest way to reduce the mileage would be to buy a new identical speedometer. Drive it for 39xx miles. Guessing, the oem GNX boost gauges became unavailable some time ago?

IMO, my boost gauge sucks big and loud. I would never trust it. I bought a Grainger valve with the goal of tuning for pump gas.

Don't know what you guy's are talking about. My speedo only goes to like, 85. Evidently, a GNX is nearly twice as fast as mine.

I am going to take mine to Gateway, maybe Saturday. Their website shows they already have, I think, 3 turbo Buick's. If it sells, fine. If not, this building will be mine for at least another year.

it was a 5.73 @ 119.50.
I am still amazed at the efficiency.

I was at KCIR 7 or 8 yrs ago and a GNX drove in. Had his slicks in the trunk. Put them on and ran 9.17. I was there with a car, but made a point to check it out. He had driven from KCK. It was a GNX clone. Nothing with the motor was oem including the block. He got to run by deceiving tech and was thrown out. It was well above 150 mph.

It is my understanding and experience, the original GT's could not be duplicated. Evidently, Goodyear never offered Eagle GT's with the white outlined letters. White lettered sure, not white outlined.

I have no opinion on the subject GNX. I have lived in Fla. I bought a roofing company 3 weeks after Andrew.

The under dash upholstery sagging and the discoloration on the glove box, I would attribute to the endless heat/humidity. The lower outside of the passenger seat, I can only attribute to wear. Seems a lot of wear. It would have to be a high number of short trips with a heavy person at the advertised mileage.

I do not trust pictures. Chances are the car would look different. If that is original paint, it has spent its life inside.

Your guess is as good as mine.

If this works, these are original 1987 GN tires and rims. If they would hold air, I would not trust them the 1/2 mile into town.
The tires on the car are at least 23 yrs old. I would not trust them 30 miles from home. In one year, I will change both of my motorcycle tires because of age. 8 yrs max.

I dunno-
If it spent 32 yrs in Fla., I would say it has stayed indoors and is in pretty good shape. I lived in Florida. I would think given the vin, one should be able to verify whether a GNX. In 32 yrs, needing an A/C dryer could happen. The interior is not as nice as mine, but once again Florida.

The mileage would probably be easier changed with that speedometer. The things I noticed were the bottom outside of the front seats and the glove box door. It is an unfortunate place to take pictures. I was going to check the plug wires on mine but the cover is on it. I changed plugs today and thought they would be original. Not so.

In my state, Missouri, there are mileage's taken at state inspections and all title transfers. With a 17 digit vin, a Carfax and a title search generally keep things straight. Large penalties for deceit.

edit-I have the original tires for mine. Nobody in their right mind would put them on the ground.

Thanks!  Some times I forget that posting it is different on this forum.
No problem. I had to check it out.

#247 is 12-13 mi from me here. When I heard about it, I rode my m/c there to have a look. I have seen 3 GNX's and twice that many clones. #247 is one owner w/2200 mi. Bumper fillers and headliner was just like mine were.

These heads are defiantly mismatched as far as intake vs exhaust.   Even the 'small' intakes could damn near pass a baseball.   And the exhausts are puny.     Any correct cam would have to have extra time spent with the exhaust valve hanging open.
I do not tell people what to do with their time/money/sweat. The most common mods are 2.19/1.88 valves. Seat work and a bowl blend. Most only slightly straighten the floor of the intake. About 1/16 off the short side radius and the high spots in the floor. If you have them, remove the air injection bumps in the exhaust. Be careful and take the exhaust short side radius down. Raise the top of the exhaust port a small amount using a gasket as guide. An excellent job should net 300 I/200 E cfm. Maybe not the first time.

If you flow the heads, I could run the motor in my program. Probably talking a custom cam.

HTH
edit- going to larger valves for street/mild strip, I like a 85% throat cut. 90% for strip only. 92% for the most serious and with replaceable seats.

The video shows about as picture perfect a 9.0x run as it gets. No muss, no fuss. A really clean run.

9.0 @ 147 is unusually high efficiency in my world. Unless they changed the rules, you could run w/o a chute.
