General Buick Tech / Re: left over electrical connector?

should go in socket at bottom of AC compressor...

Hey Sean,

Thanks for your reply. I see where the small round connector attached on the back side of the A/C compressor.... ....however, simply cannot see where this flat 2 wire connector attaches.

Heck, I've even pulled off the A/C compressor (again) to have a closer look at it. Cannot find the spot where this connector goes.

Would anyone be able to describe where this 2nd electrical connector is attached.....o r better yet....got a picture?

thanks,

dave

Didn't notice anywhere on the A/C compressor or alternator for it?

Can anyone help?

General Buick Tech / Re: how to re-install steering shaft boot clamp?
« on: September 11 2011, 08:34:50 PM »
Did you have to grind bolt clearance as some claim?

Nope, no grinding req'd. The top bolt threaded itself in all by itself (will need the help of a ratched & socket though as it will be cutting some threads as it goes in for the first time), no need to grind the steering shaft it connects to.

It is a simple straightforwar d bolt on......gonna keep mine for potential future installation.

Sent you a PM.

Well now you can sell me your steering shaft... ;)

I thought I already did?
Don't you have it installed yet?

I have two cars... and both need one. Let me know. ;)

And no, it is still on the shelf.

Gonna keep this one in my storeage bin.....just in case I want to install it down the road.

Kenne Bell headers?

Yup, original Kenne Bell Headers. You don't see or hear of these often.

If you've never seen them befoe, they look like they are a copy of the ATR Header (not sure who made them first or who copied who)?  Mine are mild steel that are Jet Hot 2000 Black coated.  Been on the car for the last 3 seasons.  You can take a closer look at the next Timiies or Wild Wing meet before the end of the season.

Thanks for the suggestion guys!

Dave.....you may have found it?

Not sure how this one works AJ ?

Guess I'll do a drive by at my local mechanic buddy at the garage.....see if I can borrow his CV boot clamp pliers for a moment?  Probably no need to buy it as I'll only need to use it once?

Still working on the car......not on the road yet?  Still got 7 or 8 weeks till I gotta put it back in storeage (again)?  eek

Got it on!

Just needed an extra pair of hands.

Used needle nose pliers and fought thru it.

If anyone is looking for a replacement boot for their rag style steering shaft (since the origianls have long been discontinued)...Mike's Montes has them available.
It's not exactly the right size...is 2" od instead of 2.25" OD, but it looks OEM stock. Just needed a bit of tweaking to fit better.
I used a 2 1/4" O ring x 1/8" and used special Loctite adhesive...bon ded to the oustided of the boot which will keep it centred in the housing....the n just filled and smoothed the void with the right stuff......let it cure and bent over the (4) securing tabs.

Could have used a gear clamp....but wanted to keep the stock(ish) look of the original.

I had to remove the jeep steering shaft as it was virtually touching the header pipe.

« on: September 07 2011, 07:43:53 PM »
Just installed a new steering shaft boot from Mike's Montes and need to know if there's a special 3 prong tool that will compress the boot clamp ?   :rolleyes;

Is there a trick tool the General has for this?

If not, is there a special technique?

Thanks in advance.

General Buick Tech / Re: Body Bushings Diagram
« on: August 29 2011, 02:14:45 PM »
I deliberated on going poly or rubber body bushings. In the end, the Repro Rubber Body Bushings won. Was told that the poly body bushings on the frame would transmit lots of vibration, and ride would be harsh, unless it was primarliy a track car...so went the rubber bushing route.

Glad I did.....had  a shop install them ......couldn't be happier....car rides like new again...no more creeks and rattles....is tight as a drum!  Seems like less body roll too!  Even raised the body approx. 1/2" so now my aftermarket heat shield doesn't touch the pad under the hood. (think my HR PartsNstuff Poly motor & transmission mounts were responsible for this problem).

I installed them all (including the GNX #5 bushing).

This is bar non....the best bang for my buck that I've found.

Good Luck.

General Buick Tech / Re: Fuel Pump Going South?
« on: August 29 2011, 11:12:00 AM »
Checked the line off fuel pressure at the track Saturday and it was down two pounds...secon d time this has happened this year. I've got the fuel pressure gauge mounted on the hood but it was hard to see exactly what it was reading going down the track(vibration). Anyway, is this a sign that the pump is weakening? If not...what would be causing this? I was showing 1.2 KR at the top of the track...02's were 808 at 20 PSI. All other SM numbers are normal.

Hey Brad,

How do you like the new 6262 DBB Turbo with ported S Shroud?

Any comments from the "seat of your pants" experience?

After you get it shaken down & are sure you don't have any fuel pressure problems....an y plans on cranking her up to 26# boost?

I've broken the locking tab off the white plastic tube inside steering wheel assembly that holds the black plastic spring assemby on horn button.

Have tried to use crazy glue and the right stuff, but it won't hold as the black piece is under tension with the spring and is too great which results in the small piece breaking off.

Can this be replaced? Steering wheel is off, but can't figure out how to remove the plate assembly that covers it.

Can anyone help me please?

thanks,

dave

Dave,

So is your horn not working??  If so I know a guy who had the same problem and about 15 minutes and about 2 zip ties later he apparently had the problem fixed.  Not the best fix probably, but apparently it is working for him.

Take care,

Hi Paul,

Good to hear from ya!  Hope all is well.

I thought the white plastic tube type housing inside the steering wheel ass'y had something to do with the horn.  Now I realize it's called the turn signal cancelling cam. I've replaced it and all is good!

Have gone back and corrected the heading / title on the beginning of this thread, so not to mislead anyone.

Now gotta finish with this new turbo installation  and about 25 other projects going on under the hood at the same time. I've taken this week of work so I can git er done.  Who knows, I just might have this car back on the road this summer!

Thanks for your help non-the less.

Cheers!

It is a great help.

Guess I'll pick up a lock plate removal tool and see if I can get this repaired.
