I should've started a poll thread on this subject, but I took the Roth side in the split....still do. 'Eat 'Em And Smile', 'Skyscraper', etc. are ALL better than ANY 'Halen album IMO.

How fuckin ignorant could you be? Do you have a hard-on for EVH?

Frankly, I am shocked that a guitarist could have such disdain for EVH.

EVH is more magician then musician to me. Sure he can play fast and all, I just think his songwriting lacks substance. But that's just me.
My 1958 Mamiya can beat up whatever camera you just wasted your money on.

I don't think his song writing talents developed until he was working with Sammy.
But I still prefer the "on the edge" sound they had with DLR. I still think he's a good musician, even if he looks like the Crypt Keeper.

EVH is great at what he does, when you see him in concert he is just amazing. Going to see them Live says it all weather it is Diamond Dave or Sammy. I seen them 4 times and they are very entertaining shows.  I agree with RR he adventured out more with Sammy because he was allowed to with DLR, who thought that he is a "Guitar Hero" and no one wanted to see or hear him on Keyboards.  If they toured again, I would see them again, they put on a GREAT show.  Michael Anthony also puts on one great Bass solo.  He keeps everyone going.....Alex Van Halen who plays drums puts on one hell of a Drum solo, prob one of the best in my books. Anyway, if they do tour again, it may be wierd without Michael Anthony and to see Wolfgang. I think Michael Anthony should do it and Wolfgang maybe comeout and play for 1-2 songs.  David or Sammy, Im there.

Spoken from a True Van Halen Fan, well except when Gary Sharone or whatever his name was frontman (he sucked big time).

One more thought:
*Cough*  EVH "used" to be one HOT M.F.!*Cough  :cheer:

David Lee Roth: MIA
Only Van Halen's second lead singer, Sammy Hagar, and ex-bass player Michael Anthony turned up for their induction. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen has just gone into rehab and original lead singer David Lee Roth stayed away in a tiff over what he would perform.

Hagar said he wished his bandmates could be there, but "it's out of our control."

"It's hard for Mike and I to be up here to do this, but you couldn't have kept me away from this with a shotgun," Hagar said.

It took less to keep Roth away. He stood up the hall, reportedly because he couldn't agree on what to sing with the band Velvet Revolver, which offered a tribute. Joel Peresman, president and CEO of the Hall of Fame, said Roth was offered a chance to sing a song of his choice with the house band. "The decision not to come was solely his, not ours."

Hagar and Anthony joined Velvet Revolver to sing "Why Can't This Be Love."

Gary Cherone (sp?) is a great singer in his own right. Listen to his work with
another Boston based band Extreme. I think the problem he had in VH was that he strained his voice too much trying to sound like Sammy instead of singing in his natural voice. Sadley some people never mature....

That was my point, he was not a good mix in the VH crew.  It just did not sound well together.

You, sir, are the ignorant one. Show me a song from all of VH's back catalog that can rival Vai's guitar work on 'Skyscraper'.....and if you say 'duh-Eruption-duh'....
