General Buick Tech / Re: power logger?
« on: July 15 2012, 10:07:06 AM »
It cannot hurt to have one.  The extra and easier to see and quantify data can only make your tuning that much easier.  You will want to get a wideband o2 to use with it.

If the data is good then you will be able to make better decisions tuning with a logger than without.  Without you are either making decisions from experience? Or you can be shooting from the hip?

With the logger you can see shortcomings of equipment if you are logging them.  An example would be logging fuel pressure.  You could use the information and see the pump could be week or failing? You may or not see this information without logging.  In this example the logger can become a preventative maintenance tool.

On the other hand, the adage of if it isn't broken don't fix it..  Or KISS.

I was unaware of this..  Good to have knowledgeable sources...  8)

Try Inline and Classic tubes

To install these things properly, I believe the body has to be lifted off the frame.    Otherwise, you have to cut them and rejoin them in order to route them properly.

Not sure on the pump hanger lines...

If you do decide to do it yourself make sure to put a lite coat of oil on the threads..

There is also a level you should probably purchase too. You affix it to the rotor zero it out. Then when you put the new strut back in make sure to put it back in rough bubble.

This will help with the alignment chances are good you will want to get an alignment.

I suppose if you no longer use the egr you could tie Into the vacuum line their before the check valve.

I have my setup the same way. The straight portion of the Tee should be going to the map sensor.

To prevent leaking some use zip ties... Personally I dislike them and prefer to use stainless wire. One full wrap and use the twist pliers. Looks great but sucks when you draw blood from the pig tails when messing around under the hood.

Relating to the racetronix in tank harness. Last summer I changed my fuel pump to one of the new deetchwerks pumps.

There was some loose corrosion near the seal ring for the sending unit. Not enough corrosion to be a sealing issue. Figured I would forgo changing the in tank harnesses due to ordering a new tank eventually..

This ended up having me to drop the tank twice. Went to a car show about a hours drive had a great day and went to start her up and no prime..

Ended up being the draw on the new pump was that much greater than the walbro it replaced. The greater draw causing the clip that connects to the bulkhead connector to melt and upon cooling insulated the pins..

Changed the harness and it hasn't been an issue since.

Needles to say I am now a pro at dropping the tank now.. ^-^

Read the entire thread was glad you found the issue... If possible can we get an admin add to the heading off topics that have been solved or fixed to have the word solved in parenthesis (SOLVED).

Or even better make a section of solved problems and move them into a solved problems section?

Something like this would help big time when dumpster dive searching threads for diagnosis... O0

Paint and Body / Re: preparing for paint

If you do allot of the prepping, stripping, taping, general disassembly it should save you quite a bit labor cost for when you send it out to paint..

Remove all trims, all seals... Get an idea for how many window trim clips you will need to replace..  Remove bumpers, remove grill. If a black grill you can spray it with a rattle can of satin black..

With bumpers removed assess the fillers condition..

Have any of you tried bypassing the thermal laod resistor? I havent had the chance to do this yet but will link it.
The posts by GaryK pretty much cover it. People have posted vids of the window times up and down and it is very quick.
He does suggest to check the motor with a multimeter depending on the findings this mod will help.
