The t49 or 44 will get you 11's without much effort even if you still have old tech shit on your car. You just have to know how to pick whats good and what will make the vendors eat bigger steaks 
A buddy of mine ran 11.46 @ 26 psi with pretty much the same setup that i have
I saw a 49 do 10.98 without a tone of boost and pacecarta doing the tuning it came out of the hloe slow but man it hauled ass after the 60' mark

altho, I prefer the TE44, basically, you are right...as long as one is running higher boost....which takes alky or race gas=of course that takes larger injectors, so like anything, it is never quite that simple  I thought the 44 and the 49 were basically the same but the 49 had a removable inlet bell and the 44 didn't ?
