General Buick Tech / Oil pickup tube
« on: January 30 2011, 01:53:06 PM »
I'm curious.  I had a hard time taking off my oil pan because it was hung up on the pickup tube.  I've had several engines and never had the problem before.  Anyway, I had to let the pan dangle while I reached in and removed the tube.  I happen to have four pickup tubes which I have collected over the years and when I put them side-by-side, they were different lenghts.  The one that I got hung up on was a good 1/2" shorter than the others. They also have very different looking bottom screen sections.  As far as I know, they are all off of '86 and '87 turbo regals.

General Buick Tech / Coolant leak
« on: January 17 2011, 08:53:42 PM »
Just re-installed my engine, and I have a coolant leak.  I removed the girdle and installed steel caps.  The top end was never opened up and never leaked before.  I first noticed the coolant as a drip on the inspection cover.  I thought it was coming out of the back of the pan, past the crappy rubber gasket I had on there.  I drained the oil, and found no coolant.  I removed the inspection cover and it had coolant in it.  I dropped the pan and found no coolant.  The entire engine is dry - no visible leaks anywhere, and no drips on the floor.
I'm wondering if it is coming out of the rear freeze plug. I can't really see up there.  If it is, is it fixable with pulling the engine?

General Buick Tech / Code 33
« on: January 01 2011, 02:26:00 PM »
Car was driving fine.  I accelerated and there was a snap sound.  I pulled over opened the hood and there was smoke.  The erg valve connector had fallen against the exhaust manifold and melted. I deleted the egr long ago.  I tried to clear the code, but it came back and the car is faltering and running very poorly.  I cut the melted connector off, thinking it was shorting out, but the code is still there.
