Buick Performance Group - BPG / 2013 BPG Event information
« on: August 09 2012, 07:26:54 PM »
The 2013 Event will be at National Trail Raceway Friday August 2nd and Saturday August 3rd. We did look at other tracks and they were almost Double what we are paying now and did not include such amenities as the Jegs Suite, onsite Security at no extra charge, Golf Cart Rental as well as other amenities. We would have to hope for Double the car count or increase our ticket costs and in this economy neither was an option. Hours of operation will be from 8am to 8pm this gives the BPG enough time to run the event and You to get back to town to eat and socialize which is a big part of the event

The Host Hotel will be the Newark Metropolitan with the Hampton Inn as a overflow hotel. The Newark hotel is only 3.5 miles away. This H
otel has onsite a restaurant, a bar, multiple conference rooms, 24hr Room service. Outdoor eating area. We would once again like all trailers to be left at the Track security will be provided. The Hotel has proposed this package of $88 per night which includes a complimentary breakfast This is a sit down buffet style with real plates and silverware and 2 drink Coupons per night. The Hotel is Fine with our parking lot activities

The Cruise in. I hope to be able to close off the street in front of Hotel and arrange the cruise in to be held there they have diagonal parking and street is 1 block long.

 More Details will be provided

We are also looking to do 2014 at Salem to mark the 10th Anniversary of the BPG and we are in negotiations with the track to try and lower the rental costs.

 Looking forward to next year

BLACK AIR: THE BUICK GRAND NATIONAL DOCUMENTARY BREAKS COVER!

The first 20 minutes of filmmaker Andrew Filippone Jr.’s feature-length documentary will be screened for the first time at the Buick Performance Group’s BPG Nationals next month.

Buick’s menacing monochromatic black Grand National and GNX are many things to many people. To some, they are simply cool rides. Others see them as the answer to: What would Darth Vader drive? To rockers George Thorogood & the Destroyers, the GN was Bad to the Bone.

And to CAR and DRIVER's Tony Assenza who, after road testing a GNX, wrote: “It’s an ax-wielding barbarian laying waste to everything in its path. It rockets to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and squirts through the quarter-mile in 13.5 seconds at 102 mph!”

Andrew Filippone Jr. sees Buick’s uncharacterist ic GN and GNX iteration black cars as more than merely modern muscle. “They’re survivors,” he says. “These cars were limited in so many ways – styling, pedigree, chassis, cubic inches – and yet they transcended all of that. In spite of all the obstacles, all of the unfortunate circumstances, they rose.” He respectfully tags the Bad Boys from Flint,  “strange & curious misfits.”

Filippone has spent four years tracking down GN and GNX owners, racers and collectors, media who road tested the cars, and the key players responsible for engineering, styling and marketing at Buick & GM. He steers BLACK AIR into novel territory for a car film, exploring issues of culture, social class, inheritance, and privilege ingrained in the turbocharged V6 Buicks, and away from the usual focus on mechanics and performance. Yet, there’s no shortage of GNs and GNXs doing what they do best – smoking tires and intimidating people - in this feature-length documentary!

The first screening of an excerpt from BLACK AIR will be shown at the BPG Nationals on August 4 at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, OH. This year BPG is celebrating The Class of 1987, the last year for Grand Nationals and GM G-Body models and the only year for GNX production.

IHADAV8 Playground / Re: Let the upgrades begin
« on: July 16 2012, 08:58:16 PM »
the car is fun to drive as is...it does need some tuning and I need to get rid of the points...have lined up a bunch of v8 buddies to give me a tune at BPg and I will take if from there...it is not a race car...i would like to swap in a posi rear but with current trans and switch pitch converter it will not break tires loose...so if anything a trans an converter swap is in order...but then you take away from the original aspect of the car...I do not think a suspension upgrade takes away from the originality of the car...but then,,,who knows...
