Most have not exploited their combos well,or perhaps at all.I have saved a lot of old tests from days of yore,and folks were running 10's with an abacus (stock computer) and bronze spear (60-1 compressor wheel).Combination,addressing the entire system and attention to detail get the timeslip.Peopl e spend gobs of money on this years "darling injector" or turbo and don't progress.There are lots of mods and tricks to make the car fly but you may not hear them from the vendors.My good friend Steve Yaklin used to say "cubic dollars are better than cubic inches"and for most this is true,but not for all.

I would be interested in seeing a universal set of criteria to rate some of these new turbos,ie; the use of the compressor map for numerical analysis but also some standardized tests for confirmation.S ome folks are not sold on the new wheel design and machining capability vs the old wheels and the correct tweeks and or synergy of parts.The new wheels just by virtue of the math,materials and processes involved are superior to the old cast wheels,but by how much.Does the benefit of the superior new wheel actually benefit every situation? This is a situation which is specific to the car and the usage involved.Patri ck wanted to see a 6262 in my car (I have a 3000 n/l Ac 16930) yet I don't have a forged bottom end to take advantage of the "new" capability.My synergy of parts will spool what I currently have just as quick (if not faster so I am told) as the the new wheel.The work inside the turbine hsg got me another 45cfm above the 900cfm rating (about 30 hp=6152e) but with a robust spool.Sorry to babble on.There are other things yet to be done in my own case.Just food for thought perhaps.

Thanks for the inputs.I'm going to keep running a TA61 because I'm trying to have streetability and a bit of punch at the same time.I'm thinking about converting to speed density to minimize lag and improve airflow efficiency.I'd like to tap the 10's at 25psi which is a lofty goal.I have other irons in the fire but I'm not sure whether they are worth mentioning.

I'm wondering if the new filter (Amsoil 9x4 cone,radiused neck and inverted cone in the end) is allowing noise that most don't hear since they are running a K & N.From a fluid mechanics standpoint it will allow a greater laminar flow crossection through the neck of the filter due to the radiused neck to cone.The filter surface area is greater than the K & N due to the inverted cone in the end of the filter.I was testing out on the freeway (really playing since I have no data) coming home from Woodward and I have never seen the car run like that at low boost.I have not got any time into the tune and yet it ran great for 10 to 12 psi on pump gas and alky.The turbo has serious work internally and to my knowledge the TA61 which I have has never surged.

At about 10 psi my turbo (TA61) starts to "howl" like a car with a ported blower.I checked for any stupid stuff like a failing bearing,journal or a belt.I have been meticulously working on taking inefficiency out of the induction system,exhaust system and turbo.I had the car out the other night and it pulled hard for 10 psi boost.I have no numbers yet but I'm just wondering if someone else has seen this as well.The car has all the equipment to tap the tens (ie;ported heads & intake,ported exh manifs,PTE slic,60#s,denso 280,alky,TT,etc).Your comments are greatly appreciated.

I'm in the process of installing a poly mount at the drivers side engine mount position.I was wondering if someone had used the engine oil pan to support the engine weight (a board will be placed on a floor jack to displace the weight across the bottom of the pan) to perform this job.My concern is that I don't really know how strong the stock pan is and perhaps someone has done this before.Of course the engine is in the car.Any insite is greatly appreciated.

I'm new here and maybe I should not comment.I have ported heads ,int manifold,worked exhaust manifs and a stock cam.My car pulls to 5400 rpm.My car many years ago went 117.5 mph (1650f egt) on a TE34 (56 mm compressor wheel) and stock cam.If you have heads and work done the stock cam is not the slug people think it is.The reason I have a stock cam is because way back when many people had lots of troubles that were cam related.Folks just put these high lift cams in iron heads and just waste energy and pound out there valve seats.

I rate the spool of a turbo by the distance travelled from a dead wholeshot until the boost gage breaks 0 psi.My Ta61 with the same 16930  n/l converter breaks 0 psi boost in roughly 12 feet.I have an RJC graiger valve which is cranked all the way down.I also have a stock cam and my compression is at 8.55:1.Just a point of reference.
