Looks like they have the files for our ECM also.

I wont be ready to try this until spring, but I'm willing to spend some time on this. Anyone with me? (probably there are a lot smarter ECM guys out there than I am)

NICE! I like that bluetooth dongle idea. Does that software package provide the same data stream that we get out of a scanmaster?
I dont know if I've come to terms with the idea of carrying a laptop in the car at all times, but if I did I would gladly dump the scanmaster. A nice android or tablet based software package would be a welcome addition.

Somewhere I have a whole binder of these old articles from GSCA(?) If someone wanted to take the time to scan them and post them I'd be willing to ship it out.

video available, @ 3:24 :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1I_9854y_o&feature=em-upload_owner

I pulled from my 90k grand national, I've swapped an accumulator ball with a AC Delco unit. Switching to hydroboost because I want to. It does cycle the pump at key on, and the brake light in the dash did not come on after that. The rubber boot shown in the video is not included, but I can include the bracket if needed.

$210 obo shipped from 48430

General Buick Tech / My 1986 Grand National (re) Build Thread
« on: January 02 2015, 10:26:04 AM »
I figure I'll start a thread here to go with my build this winter.

I've been publishing some youtube videos to go along with it, but here is the back story and the plan.

I bought the car in 97 when I graduated high school. it had 60k on it, and I drove it as my daily for about a year. it was in great shape, all stock, but it burned up a trans that year. I got the trans rebuilt by a local very reputable builder, and put a maxeffort chip in it with all the supporting mods. Fast forward 10years, the car sits in my garage 90% of the time, due to a handful of chronic issues, leaks, powersteering, brakes, dead A/C etc.

I, on the other hand, am considerable better than I was in college when it comes to fabricating and building cars... and now I have a real place to work on cars and all the equipment I need. (I've raced oval track cars for the last 12years, built a lot of different cars and engines). So now I'm setting out to rebuild the car right: freshen up the top end of the engine, ditch the powermaster, put a real turbo and converter in, update the tune, clean up all the chronic issues, put a nice exhaust kit on it, not some homemade janky crap.

So far, I've torn the engine down to the short block, and built it back up:
freshened heads, blended the bowls, valve job, .005" deck face
stock cam was KO'd, replaced with a roller from Full Throttle, harland sharp 1.55 rockers
rebuilt the front cover, hand surfaced the oil pump plate, replaced with stock height gears
did the RJC bullet proof headgaskets, port matched the intake, and put it all back together

mods all together are:
RJC power plate, 62mm ported TB, alkycontrol, 340pump, 16930 converter, 3" terry houston DP, 6265 turbo

Here's the VLOG on youtube, subscribe for updates!

Yep, we may know a handful of the same people. I'm at Powertrain engineering in Pontiac now.

Not sure if this belongs in this forum or not, please move as needed.

So... I read a couple of threads on scanmaster relocation (nice work BTW) and I got to thinking, why do we have that big clunky box anyhow? I mean come on man, it's 2014, the radioshack kit box is outdated. There is just better technology out there, such as this multigauge from PLX: http://www.plxdevices.com/product_info.php?id=MULTDM6

So why can't something like this be "programmed" or just fed a corrected signal, to work like our scanmasters? It certainly would allow for a much cleaner install, and at less than half the cost of the scanmaster I have to think that there is some margin to include a "translator" if needed and still come in at a competitive price.

So you electronics types get to work on that, I need something by this spring so I can de-clutter my interior.

(but to give credit where its due, that is probably the single most important device turbobuicks have ever seen... by no means am I trashing the device or the idea, I'm simply issuing a challenge to the community)

Good point... maybe I should just sell the driver's side.

I have a set of these, I've had them for about 10years if I had to guess, and I think that audiowizard may have made them, I forget but I bought them here. Anyhow, I'm getting older and my tastes have changed a bit, so I'd like to sell them. They come with Kicker RMB8 mid bass drivers, and they are not plastic, they are fiberglass wrapped in vinyl and stitched to match the stock interior. Super super high end deal.

These are way way way nicer than qlogic kickpanels, you'll know as soon as you pull them out of the box.

I need to get $350 shipped

Thanks, I think I'm going to try to post GN videos every Sunday night... so long as I'm making progress. Maybe more often over the holidays, based on progress.
Lots of parts coming in... (here's last Sunday's video)

I wonder if I should move the video posts to the other forum?

Right on, that is the tentative plan, I was just spoiled because I could ride down the street and get a lot of tuning done for a coke and pack of smokes.

I've got a VLOG going as well, here's the progress as of last week. I'll probably put a fresh video up tonight.
