Well, I'm told it will be 6 to 8 months before I'll be putting any pictures in this thread ( !!! !!! ), but I filled out the spec sheet for my custom order at the local Jackson dealership today.
-
Ooh... an American Rhoades right? Did you get the reverse pinstriped one?
-
aww damn! Whats it look like?

I just found this:http://cgi.ebay.com/Eric-Clapton-s-Guitar-1956-Blackie-Fender-Relic-Strat_W0QQitemZ280053267970QQihZ018QQcategoryZ118987QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Looks like a piece of crap to me. To each his own.....

Shweet !
I just bought an old Carvin X100b today.
Fuck you a hundred times Rob! LOL
Those are some of the sweetest fucking amps I've heard in my life. I love how Carvins sound, you can almost feel the tubes popping out at you, they're so responsive. I'm still rocking my Quad-X preamp but I want to find a back up one in case I fry it.
Good score!

The Quad X is supposed to be the balls. I've heard countlessaccol ades
about the x100b's clean channel. I actually bought it because my rack setup
can't produce a heavy enough sound for the music we've been playing. Our rhythm
guitarist has a Crate tube amp that blows my rack away. His sound is absolutely
Killer. Then again my setup is about 20 years old now. I'm hoping the
X100b will meet my needs untill I can afford something better. I'm looking for
a Pantera/Lamb of God type of sound.
Here are the pics from the auction.

Does the new fiddle look something like this ?

-
I dont know but I talked to Sylvan today and told him that we got a pic of his new guitar. I didnt tell him it was a hello kitty guitar. lol
He told me what it'll look like and I promise it'll make us all proud!
-
LOL Oh man, hell is coming!
Rob, you probably won't find a better tubey sounding amp. But IF you do, I'll take that Carvin off your hands. ;) Make sure you run it through a high wattage cab, as something like Celestion Greenbacks won't let it's full potential shine. It'll probably sound damn good through a low wattage bass cab without tweeters.
-
I'm having a GNX-inspired Rhoads made. RR1, USA, neck through, painted neck, black on black on black except for the neck/headstock binding and the sharkfin inlays which will be GN interior grey. Seymour Duncan, Floyd Rose Pro, killswitch installed, yadda-yadda-yadda. In 6 months or so when I pick it up, I'll be affixing a GNX trunk emblem to complete the bitch. They are supposed to be calling me back this afternoon with the official price....I'm told to expect between 4 and 5 grand. Half down and half due when it's done. I'm gonna go beat off now.
-
Should be awesome. I can't wait to one day see and hear it!
-
ooh...
-
that will be cool..

Brian:
I already own 2 Carvin 4x12 cabs. They're a little newer than the head, as they're
carpeted. I think they're rated at 400 watts rms each. I've had them for nearly 20 years now.
Sylvan:
That Jackson sounds sweet. The price tag would've scared me away though.
I like their EMG style oem pickups like the ones on my Charvel. I also like the
Jackson (Floyd Rose licensed) tremelo better than any I've ever used.
Neck through is definately the way to go. Much more sustain. For that kind
of cake, they should airbrush a GNX on it for you. I was looking at buying
one of the lower line Jacksons with a bolt on neck (approx. $550) Personally,
I'd forgo the gray cosmetics, and buy an off the shelf one in black and then personalize it. Either way, it sounds like a real beauty. :supz:
-
I went and browsed their web site the other night.
I lokked at the SL3, Soloist, and DK variations. I was
dissappointed that they don't show the EMG style jackson pickups
anymore. You basically have a choice between Seymour Duncan, and
3 different EMGs (81, 85, and HZ) The Seymour Duncan HB was a good
pickup back in the day (20 years ago...), But I always liked the EMG's better,
because they weren't as susceptable to microphonics and feed back in a
live situation. Obviously, thats not a problem in the studio.
-
I was thinking it'd be 'the balls' if they could cut a gnx flare into the body. I'll see if I can mock one up in PS.
-
Another thing that'd be the witches tit, would be to buy one of the
reproduction GNX dash plates from Kirban and put it on the guitar.
Jackson's custom shop does all kinds of strange stuff. I saw one
of their kelly guitars covererd in gold anodized aluminum diamond plate.
So I don't think anything is out of the question...
-
http://jacksonguitars.com/customshop/photo_gallery.php
Yeah, the custom shop is down to do pretty much anything you can dream up. I've always been a fan of subtlety, so the flares crossed my mind and got nixed. I have turbo 6 and 'intercooled' bagdes on both of my other Jacksons, so *of course* I have planned all along to put a GNX trunk badge on this guitar when I get it....goddamn, can't anything be a surprise?
-
Jackson just got one point of "Bad Karma" for this one:
Its called the PS Extreme. :vom:
They even tried to cover it
up by claiming that P.S. stands for "Pablo Santana".
-
Those are all pretty cool looking.
-
Jackson just got one point of "Bad Karma" for this one:
Agreed 100%. Jackson has had a few questionable ideas since Fender took over. Sorry, Brian.
-
Yeah, I thought it was kinda hoky for them to put Fender necks on the Charvels.
I like that style neck, but only on a Fender.
-
Agreed 100%. Jackson has had a few questionable ideas since Fender took over. Sorry, Brian.
Fender disappoints me too. I haven't bought a Guitar World or guitar mag in like 5 years now. I stopped giving damn about what was new, just because I felt the wheel was round enough and nobody's going to cut it smoother, you know? My next guitar will be a Fender Jassmaster, but I'm going to build it with Warmoth parts. I don't trust Fender anymore, except from the late 60's to the early 80's.
-
I'll buy a strat someday, but it'll be one of the ones with dat big "gawdy"
headstock. For some strange reason that I can't explain, I like those.
-
My 76 is like that! Woot!
I think it's solid maple or something, the motherfucker is like 11 pounds. Might be HEAVY ash. The neck is at least an inch thick, like a baseball bat. I ripped the frets off and I need to re-fret the damn thing. I got with 3 humbuckers and a Valley Art custom shop active switching system. It's fucking weird. I got it about 10 years ago for about $400, now they're on eBay for like $1,800. Ridiculous.
-
This whole Guitar thing had me lookin' around. I thought
my Les Paul was a hacked '58 (based on info from a book
my sister had bought me. I just looked it up on Gibson's
web site, and found out its a '79. Its one heavy SOB too.
I just e-mailed them about reworking it. I may have them
put EMG-ZWs in it at the same time. It has most of the finish
worn off of the back side of the neck, and is starting to buzz all over the place.
(I have pieces of paper jammed in the nut to lessen that to a point.)
I'm sure you get the picture...But it has tons of fuckin' character !
-
Those old Les Pauls are fucking BATTLE AXES. They weigh more than a Daihatsu (radio delete model, of course), but it makes for one hell of a guitar.
It's really no dig against Fender, but *all* companies that get that big end up hiring more guys to watch the bottom line and less guys like us who live for the guitar. A guy at the dealership I went to was talking to me about how he worked for Jackson for several years and left after the change of ownership....h e said toward the end there the 'Suits' had turned it into Auschwitz (disgruntled, maybe?)....I asked him why the hell a customer putting in a damn custom order has to speak to them through a dealership. He said years ago, getting someone from the shop on the phone could sometimes happen, but not anymore. So far, I haven't seen the product suffering in the quality department, but I have to assume it will happen if Fender is able to grow Jackson into a bigger seller.
-
I went into a music store tonight to look at a couple of Jacksons that they have for sale. I've delt with these people for years and they offered me something extremely rare and reasonably priced. Its a 1990 Gibson Spider. "What the hell is that ?", you ask. It is on of about 40 guitars made by Gibson, and designed by Wayne Charvel.
Its probably the only Gibson ever made with a pointed headstock. It has EMG style
pickups with a Kahler (Floyd Rose design) tremelo. Bolt on neck 22frets. It plays
beautifully. This was designed after Wayne Charvel left Charvel to go work for Gibson to aid them in their attempt at targeting the Metal/heavy rock market.
Rumor has it that Wayne and Gibson didn't see eye to eye and parted ways. This
project was soon scrapped after that. Its really cool and sorely tempting....
-
Price?
-
$1500 Brand spankin' new. I may have been the first customer to play it.
-

Nice! I have a subscription to a rag called 20th Century Guitar (I'm not recommending it) and they follow vintage and niche guitar sale prices. I'm sorry, but I don't understand paying $100k for ANY guitar.
-
I don't either. Did you see the link that I posted on the "Blackie" replica.
They wanted an absurd $37 k for it. Where are these people? I have some stuff I
could sell them. Muh ha ha ha ! :rofl;
-
Fer rill. I mean, if I was loaded, *maybe* I would drop coin like that for the guitar that Robert Johnson recorded with (if anyone even knows where it is), but it would have to be a reeeeaaal humdinger like that. Then again, if I made twice the money that I do now, I'm sure I'd have like 100 guitars. You know, one of everything. Jackson 'Roswells', a few Martins, etc.
-
I'm glad that I don't have tons of money, because its like a sickness. You
can't just buy one.
Kramer focus 3000 Strat body with humbucking bridge P/U and 2 single coils & Floyd Rose
1979 Gibson Les Paul
1969 Gibson SG
1974 Gibson Flyin' V
Ibanez Destroyer
Fender/Squier Bass
Ovation six string acoustic
Charvel Strat style
BC Rich Bitch
Hagstrom semi hollow body 12 string electric (old ?)
Home made Rhoads style mini V (not as cool as it may sound)
I'm currently at 11. I used to have a no name six string acoustic that I gave to a buddy of mine's daughter when she wanted to learn how to play. And I gave
another friend of mine a Mach 1 Les Paul copy after he had to sell his gear to pay some bills. He still plays it today many years later.
So I was at 13 then.

I say that all the time about cars.

Dude, your guit-fiddle collection is impressive. I'm at, like, 6....I buy some cheap guitars from time to time telling myself that they'll be awesome for that 15 second breakdown in a track that never happens. On the other hand, I have more connectors/Halloween noise makers/circuit-bent electronics/toy instruments and plans to buy voicebox doodads and pawnshop drums than I can keep up with. Jesus, I need to start my own charity for retarded noise freaks. This weekend I've got my brother in law bringing his M-4 over so that I can run a mic out the window and record some gunfire and the sound of (various things) getting blown apart. Hmm, I'm kinda tired of that one dog......I'm kidding, probably.

That reminds me of a song we did back in sophmore year of high school called "Rape, Murder, Butcher,Kill !"We went behind my friend Brian's house
with a Ruger 10/22 and 50 rd. mag recording rapid firing and making death groans.
We then used it for the intro of the song. Wouldn't ya know a few years later,
Metallica comes out with One. :mad; Kinda like when my friend Andy and I were
changing the pickups in one of our guitars with it plugged in using a cordless screwdriver. It made all sorts of cool noises, then don't ya know a few years later, Van Halens doing something similar on a hit song. Its all coincidence, but its
aggravating at the same time...
-
True dat, yo. Me and a buddy in Ruth, NV (when I was 19) once borrowed a litter of kittens and videotaped ourselves putting them in a burlap bag next to the railroad tracks.....the n, thanks to the 'OFF' button, took the cats out of the bag and turned the camera back on just before a train came by and we threw the bag on the tracks in front of a train. Needless to say, our chick friends didn't think it as funny as us. On the track 'Kill To Ruth', the only way that I was able to get the wife to stand in front of a mic and let me sample her saying "I come here to hide....Lidoca ne and pig's blood" was by promising her that I'd fuck with the speed...which I did and it doesn't sound anything like her.....told ya so, chick.
-
Video taping shit is cool. Back in high school, my same friend Brian
had to make a video for an AV class project. He used Metallica's "Orien"
for the background. he then set up his camera in various hallways of the
school, and did a bunch of zoom in shots to give you the feeling of running
down the hallways in a haste. Then he has a shot showing another friend of
ours running out the front door holding a box and dragging a wire behind him.
The next scene has him pushing down the handle on the detonator box. Then
for the end he found footage from an old German war movie with a building
that looked nearly identical to our shool being blown up with a mushroom type cloud
over it. It was fucking brilliant. Everyone liked it except for the teacher.
That was back in 1986, If that had happened today, he'd still be in therapy.
Since then, the kid in the video has become a US Marine. :supz:
Truely positive results.
-
Oh I am sure of it, we got away with a lot of shit back then...

You haven't seen mine. I've used it to drive nails in the wall. 70's Strat's man! Bulletproof! I've used it for an ashtray, just to piss off Strat purists. LOL

I've been playing this last few weeks.. I can only remember a handful of zeppelin songs and even then I butcher the solos... I do kinda want to buy a new set of pickups for the standard (burstbuckers) and find some nice celestion greenbacks or old blackbacks... I've also always wanted to learn how to play White Summer/Black Mountain side; last time I tried to learn it I got a minute into the song and then couldn't play the next two bars so I gave up

Sylvan what made you decide to get a custom guitar? Not happy with whats out there or have money to burn???

Nah, I use the term "bling" for almost everything. I even called Robert's new headers his "bling bling headers".
-
They did bling though! There's was fucking light emanating from the box.

I've always wanted a Jackson custom...my excuse to finally get it is my upcoming *cough* birthday.
BUT....they've been having me jump through hoops in order to place my order and it has left a very bad taste in my mouth (Phil, you know what that's like). I am the type of guy who, if delayed, will burn his money up elsewhere...so, project Jackson has been postponed for a few months and in a couple of weeks I'll be posting pics of my new go-fast parts instead (Can you say 'ball bearing PT67'?). Kinda sad, but oh well.
-
(Can you say 'ball bearing PT67'?)
I want one too!!!! :prayer:

...but I'll start a new thread for that later.
-
I've had a good experience dealing with Fullthrottle. I was looking
at the water line requirements, and thought maybe the throttle body hoses
would work better there. Hmmm. (Maybe thats how most are using them ?)
I've seen people drill and tap their intake for a water line too....
