Title: Some old Military photos from work
Post by: Ttype83 on September 30 2006, 10:37:12 PM
I posted these on TBS, but thought I would share here too.
This photos are from the first gulf war near the border.

This one is 4 C-130's getting loaded, engines running, 130 ramp temp. plus the heat of the engines. Any exposed metal would burn you.

This one is load up troops, combat loaded, they had to sit on the floor. 96 passengers this way

This is us loading a small cannon on a C-130.

This is me standing on top of a Hummv roof loading bags,

Those are cool pics, Jim.   How does that work compare with what you are doing now?

The C-130 is smaller than I thought they were. I thought
those were the planes that'd carry a bunch of tanks and stuff.
Maybe I'm thinking C-5 ? It had to be miserable working in that
heat. Cool pics though.

Jim,

What was your AFSC? Where you a loadmaster? Crew chief? I was in for 4-1/2 years in the late 70's/early 80's. I was in Weapons, 462X0. Not quite "brown shoe days", but close. I worked on F-4E's and B-52G's and H's. I've been on a C-130 a couple of times. Jump seats suck. I found some of our planes from the 526th TFS online.

I was a 605x0 Air Transportion ... Aerial Port (APS)  We did the loading, loadmasters mostly got in the way. LOL

I think they just retired the last of the F-4's as well as the F-14's.
There is a museum in Ohio that I'm planning to visit someday that
has a bunch of the old birds.

There is also a museum opening in Manchester. They recently had
the last flying B-24 and a B-17 up here. I got to see the B-17 because it flew directly over my house.  :supz:

Old warbirds are cool. I think you're thinking of Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton. I used to live in Cinci before I moved to NH. I've only been to Wright-Patt twice. Once to look at their power plant and the other time to go to the USAF Museum. Worth the trip. It's a whole day thing. Leave the women behind, they get bored. Lot's of firepower on display.

Hoah 605.... I am a 2T2X1.... we are the next generation of the 605's.  I love my job.  Rob to answer your question of how big a C-5 is you can literaly load a plane in that plane.  I took a Corsair aircraft off of one in 2000.  I also loaded a butt load of helos on one.
