We purchased a brand new DW in 2010. It appears it's taken an early retirement IMO as there's power to the unit. Just stopped yesterday. Seems to me it didn't last long as would expect 10 yrs but they thing are made these days it doesn't surprise me.
Should I just bite the bullet and pony up for a new unit? Most searches say anywhere for 7-12 yr life span. Any thoughts?

Fixed! Somewhat of a false alarm. Not 15 minutes after posting this I decided to check over the wires at the hook up more closely. Turnes out if I wiggled the wires at the hook up, the power was interrupted. So I pulled the marretts off and noticed the wires were not twisted together well at all. So I rat tailed them together and installed new marretts and voila she's working like new.
So lesson learned. If your appliance stops working make sure you check the connections good before throwing in the towel.

Good find! I was always taught to twist the wires so it is held together.

I had a feeling it was something simple. Always go with your gut instinct, and the wife found the bill of sale.....I was wrong (what else is new :rolleyes; ), it was purchased in 2012 not 2010. So it's less than 5yrs old. I was thinking new dishwasher.... ......were programmed to think so negative at times.

If you use power to get the motor to run it is usually one of the switches. You can jump them out with some wire to find when they aren't working or use a meter to test for continuity.
Good find, way cheaper than a service call or a new unit .
On a side note we got our dishwasher when one of my daughters asked about the "new" looking dishwasher un one of her friends garage. The mom said yes it is brand new but it leaks. Oh, she told them, my dad can fix that. The mom told her have him come and get it out of our garage . They had already bought another new one after two warranty calls and it still leaked. I ordered a couple gaskets off amazon and put them in. You could see where it was leaking on the side. Not any more, and it is a nice LG with a stainless front.

I repaired my dept store branded clothes dryer a few weeks ago. Went thru h*ll finding the right parts viking-ge-moffat but if it lasted 30yrs figured it was worth a few bucks get another 20 out of it. Retiring it's matching washer was a big mistake, what a POS the new stuff turned out to be.

Truth on the new stuff. Those old top load washers are way better imo. My cousin showed me how to put me gears and seals in the gear box of the old Maytag. Sadly the wife wanted a front loader so we have a Samsung. The problem with it is coins get into the pump and strip the works out. Not a hard deal but a pita to pull it all apart for a dime ot quarter stuck in there.
-
Yep been there done that too often. We had a front loader for a bit and I got rid of it due to that very issue. Couldn't get back to a top loader quick enough

I was expecting to hear that your wife passed away.

There's no way you call YOUR wife that.

Me neither. She knows where I sleep and feeds me. No sense in goofing that up.

Does "loading the dishwasher" mean getting your wife drunk?? :102:
