Title says it all

Ok, I have to ask. Why those two choices? Lots of better stuff as technology progresses. Though I will admit cost goes up with the "newness".
Full disclosure, I am going with a ta62 or TA60. Also old tech but I got them reasonably priced.
Good Luck with your search.

Really dont know what to do?? Cost is always a factor but dont want to cheap out and regret it later.

Personally, I don't believe hype, only results.
If you are running 17 psi and no alcohol injection, the stock turbo with the stock converter is hard to beat.
If you are running 25 psi of boost with alky injection, either a 44 or 49 is an excellent choice for a mild street car that runs toward the mid-11's in quarter but a higher stall converter will make it easier to get out of the hole. Last I looked, the 5831 is the modern replacement for the 44/49's but they keep changing numbers and claiming they are "much" better, but they seem to run the same from my perspective. I think they are running out of Garrett parts and having to have new parts made so it becomes a marketing excercise.
These cars are all about matching up the parts combination in order to have something that may be tuned. Yuo need to establish your long term goals and plan accordingly.
John Craig of Limit Engineering is a high quality rebuilder but with the proliferation of turbo cars, I bet there is someone close at hand that can do it. There used to be an article on gnttype on rebuilding the factory unit

I was running 24 lbs with alky so I think the 5831 is the ticket. Full throttle has them for 775.....ouch.. ...cant find anything cheaper...gott a start saving. Thanks again for the help

I LOVE wi, except the job market and the winter.
We lived in Marshfield and Madison when I was a kid, and I lived in Burlington(near Bohners Lake) a few years back. My parents are from Racine(Husher/Caledonia on hwy38 at 6 mile) and Janesville(grandfather and several uncles worked at the GM plant).
I'd hit a few boards and keep your eyes open. Stuff pops up cheap sometimes. You have to be ready. Or maybe get hold of the Bison guy(on tb.com), he might have some used stuff to sell. TA49 would be where its at if I wasn't going to go to a 4.1, but that just me.

Probably going with a 5931 from full throttle. I love wi also, only thing as fun as the GN is tearing up the trails on my sled in the winter

Following the trails from bar to bar, Yep, that is fun.
Did you at least put in a call to Bison. He is a magician from what I have been told.
