Title: So is absinthe legal in the States or what?
Post by: 87natty on February 20 2008, 12:36:21 AM
I keep hearing that it's legal in Frisco for some reason, and I've read on Wikipedia that some of it is, it just has to pass a test of some sort. So what's the damn deal? I got a hankering to split a bottle with Racer X sometime soon.

On a side note, my quest to determine legality has led me to ALL kinds of sites thrying to show me how to make the shit.

Anyway, I got on this trip after having drank a 6 pack of Springboard Ale, brewed by  New Belgium Brewing (as in the same brewery as Fat Tire) with wormwood. It was one hell of a buzz, get it while it's out there, limited runs.

I've never heard of it being illegal. Isn't it similar to Sambuca ?

Absinthe is legal in the States.  It was banned at on time because of it's halucinagenic nature.  That has been proved to be more of copper poisoning due to poor distilling practices.  The recipe was thought to be lost until some distilling instructions were found in Poland.  Absinthe is now on the upswing in popularity and served legally all over the USA.

Oh shit... Time to make some beer in those pots they sell in Mexico on the side of the road! Whoa! They sell copper pots and pans between TJ and Playas de Tijuana. I'll get a picture next time.

Seriously, if Everclear and the like are legal I don't see why anything else wouldn't be..I could go down to the liquor store right now and pick up enough to be dead within a few hours.

But I wont, assholes.
