General Buick Tech / Is the air box gasket still available?
« on: January 05 2012, 08:30:13 AM »
Needing the big foamy type gasket that goes inbetween the fire wall and the air box.
anybody have a part #?
Is this still available?

also, is it just regular urethane sealer used for the top cover to bottom cover?
what did the factory use?
part number?

1. 87 we4 hood. paint is nice for a driver. if it was buffed, it would look nicer than most drivers. I don't see any dings or corrosion. hood emblem is missing on one side.
stock hood pad included. its in so so used condition. not bends or tears in it. I removed the pad to make sure there was no corrosion underneath.

2.header panel. paint is excellent! I'm pretty sure this is a aftermarket panel. ready to bolt on and go

3. both frontheadlight bezels. driver condition. not dry rotted or brittle. one has a small crack started at the upper bend near the park lens. it does not flex or lose its integrity. if these where painted they would be very nice.

4. rh and lhfront bumper fillers. appear to be original. no cracks, no dry rot, still flexible, not brittle. they have been painted and that is the newer paint flaking up in the pics. they would look very nice after a repaint.

5. 87 grill. very nice condition. no cracks or breaks. there is the typical corrosion on the metal bracket part at the top.

6. stock 87 tr drive shaft

7. 2 sets of stock 8445 heads

8. one stock 87 turbo inlet bell

9. kirban front park light smoke cover lenses. new in plastic, with hardware included.

I have no idea how much to ask for any of this. make offers or let me know what a fair price is. I will not ship the hood, drive shaft, header panel, or the heads.

I take check, mondy order, or paypal but have to ad 3% for fees.

anybody install poly energy suspension body bushings before?
they say to torque to factory specs, our buicks are 52 foot lbs, right?
is the bottom bushings supposed to bulge out pretty good?
I've never seen the factory rubber bushings bulge out like this

IHADAV8 Playground / look what I bought last night. now what do I do?
« on: December 23 2011, 09:42:08 AM »
ok, so I know this guy thats had this 87 we4 in his garage for quite awhile.  the front clip is mostly off, but its 100% there, completely stock except for redoing the seats in vinyl, and very clean except the frame is rusted behind the rear wheels where most here in the rust belt rust.  the car has been very well taken care of.
the only thing that is screwed up is original owner had one of them retarded pop up sunroofs installed.  so now the roof is ruined.
I bought this thing STUPID cheap!!!!   I have a complete astroroof top I cut about a foot below the roof line, upstairs in my garage. so I could weld in the new roof and weld in new section of rear frame, and put this thing back together and save another one.   but I absolutely refuse to start working on another one of these things, I've still got a ways to go on my 84, and anymore I prefer enjoying the car driving it vs working on it
I originally went after it cause I thought it was in bad shape.  I was going to grab a couple parts I still need for my hot air conversion, then part it out.   the dash, console, steering wheel, etc.... is all in incredible shape.  the dash is mint.
it has most the factory options.
Now I'm not sure what to do.  I think the reality is with this economy that I won't make much if I flip it as it is.   but I'd make a nice profit, and help others restore theirs and keep them on the road, if I part it.

decisions decisions

IHADAV8 Playground / anybody else have a 109 night stand?
« on: December 03 2011, 12:13:15 PM »
so this girl I haven't seen since high school was over the other day.  man has she gotten hot, lol!
(hey why don't I have smilies??)
anyways, so for the past couple years I've had some virgin 109 engines right next to my bed.  no other reason other than thats just been the best place for them outta the way.
so me and this girl are chillin, and I can tell she's flippin out over all the gn parts laying around.  She had this weird look in her eye and sayin stuff like "wow, I can see why you haven't found a wife".
I kinda got the feeling she didn't want to hang out again

General Buick Tech / well this sucks!
« on: September 28 2011, 11:08:04 PM »
look at me, all trying to make progress and stuff on my 84 gn. :icon_super:
so I rounded up a spare set of stock rear upper and lowers, bought the boxing kit from hr parts, paid a guy a 100$ to tig them super nice.  then powder coated them.  I went to install the hr greaseable bushing into one of the uppers  and while I was pressing them in with the bushing tool,  I noticed they where caving in on one side after it was too late.
I must not know my own strength.  its caved in pretty nasty, see pic.  It was worse, but I sorta knocked it back out abit with a punch.
I guess I'm screwed, and even worse, now I gotta hear you guys bust my balls about why in the heck I'm bothering boxing the uppers on a car that will never be faster than low elevens.  :jerkit:
I want to increase handling on twisty roads, I figure it will only help to box the uppers.
I can't think of anyway to save this thing short of putting way more work into it than its worth.
Should I just bite the bullet and go buy some boxed uppers and lowers?
or am I probably not going to see much of a increase in handling in the back by boxing the uppers if I already am boxing the lowers, and installing all new poly bushings?
Was planning on just going with the atr bar.  I've debated and went went back and forth on deciding if I wanted to put in a hr sway bar setup,  but I'm just thinking its gonna be overkill

General Buick Tech / control arm bushing question
« on: September 21 2011, 08:43:10 AM »
as usual, assume I know nothing, lol!  (which isn't usually to far off) :add_wegbrech:

What you idealy want is for  your control arm bushings to move nice and freely, as in, the bushing turns without any binding around the bolt shaft, correct?  that helps keep the rearend on the ground, making launches and turns more effective.

The stock rubber bushings probably work this way when new, if lubricated correctly when installed, but as age, use and grease goes away, that causes the stiff friction you get when you move the control arm, correct?

so in a perfect upgraded world... I should go ahead and install poly rear control arm bushings with the grease fittings?

For Sale/Trade/Want To Buy / wtb 86/87 rad hold down plate
« on: September 21 2011, 08:25:34 AM »
I'm gonna powder coat it, so finish doesn't need to be nice.  no dents, bends, or other than stock holes drilled.  also need the 2 fan bolts and washer/nuts that screw into the side of it.

thanks

the site is all change-ed.  I kinda like the simplistic-ness though.

So no more smileys and shout box?

I ordered/paid for a couple sets for both my cars several months ago.
I was under the impression that they where going to be made and shipped out few months back.
I'm not part of the gsca, but I guess I should be.
anyways,  my buddy that ordered them for me that is a member don't seem to know too much either on their eta

I went to put it on, and the threads in the frame are stripped out. it just had to be the only one you can't get to with a nut from the inside   its the driver side rear.  the sleeves for the steering gear box bolts are in the way

it looks like I got a little over a eighth of a inch of meat in the frame to work with.  my guess is that a helicoil would probably work fine. anybody else tried it there?

IHADAV8 Playground / Obama question (political)
« on: March 28 2011, 11:33:19 AM »
if Obama is without a doubt and clearly a united states born citizen, then why won't he produce his original authorized birth certificate and put all this controversy to bed?
