Title: Transmission Line Heat Shield
Post by: Hill1430 on August 03 2022, 10:20:18 PM
My car is missing this heat shield. Does anyone have this on their car? If so does anyone know where I might find one? Is it really necessary?

I don't recall either of mine having that bracket on them

I thought I took a lot of pictures while I tore it down. Turns out I missed some things I should have documented better.

That is actually a heat shield for the starter, isn't it.  I don't recall it looking like that picture but GM put them over the starters to keep them from heat soaking and drawing a lot of current to start.

I have the two heat shields you are talking about. By chance I stumbled onto an all original 31,000 mile GN that lives 4 miles from me. That one did not have the one in the picture on it. I have two questions for you Steve. My car is missing the spark plug wire loom bracket on the passenger valve cover. Do you know anyone who might have one they would part with? Do you have any advice on how to make iPhone pictures small enough to post? I would like to show some pictures of my progress.

If this is what your talking about most parts stores have them in the help section..    https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NOE7353593?cid=paidsearch_shopping_dcoe_google&campaign=GSC-Ignition-Electrical-Lighting&campaign_id=10947851940&adgroup_id=107773573419&adtype=pla_with_promotion&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIl5-8ycav-QIVWgaICR3ZnASPEAQYAyABEgJlafD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&

35 years ago is in my foggy zone...I don't remember any thing about wire looms on the Regals.  I always used zip ties if I needed separators LOL

With regard to pictures.  I either email them to myself or I use FB Messenger from my phone to FB on my pc.

Then I save them to my desktop and resize them to 800 x whatever the automatic number comes up when I use Windows Paint and resave to the desk top and they will fit here.
If you don't have a desktop or laptop, I am sure there are apps to resize on your phone.

I think that part you have circled in the original post isnt a heat shield, its just a "bracket" that keeps the lines in place and wont let them sag over by the exhaust. Its to small to sheild much of anything.

Ed's link is a nice piece, will look proper but if your missing the metal stand you will have to make one again. Steves idea works great also, I saw an episode of Roadkill where he makes plug wire separators out of zipties that looks good and works well also, did it on the car I'm fighting with now.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I will test my brothers metal skills on the valve cover bracket. Trying to keep the car looking original. Just thought if someone had aftermarket valve covers and no longer needed on. I did see that roadkill episode.
