Title: Finally fixed the Caddy Cat
Post by: SuperSix on February 06 2011, 02:55:34 PM
Car's been rattling for a few years - getting progressively worse. I figured the cat substrate had broken down - I was right.

The cat is swedged/crimped on - so after measuring the pipe (2.5") and ordering a heavy duty Wagner butt clamp (No, not THAT one, Zap) I dug in and got it done today.

The acceleration has been getting worse - the crumbled substrate had been blocking the exhaust.

After clearing it out and putting it all back together - took it for a drive - accelerates much better, and sounds pretty bad ass now too.

Pile o' substrate:

I had an issue with the 85 GN after I installed a new cat (coincided with ATR 3" exhaust install). Soon after, the acceleration started to demise and then the boost dropped off to the point of only building 6# at WOT. I pulled the cat and found the catalyst was melted. Nothing a long hammer handle could not fix. Put the cat back on the car and it has ran like a champ ever since.

What is this "snow" you speak of? :)

I live just north of Tampa Florida - no snow here.

We always just called it 'honeycomb', wiseass.
