IHADAV8 Playground / New Personal Best 6.72 at 104.67
« on: October 12 2014, 07:46:24 PM »
Went back out today and pulled 4 numbers from low gear fueling and went a full 4 degrees over Erics low gear timing default setting. Cranked out a 6.72 at 104.67 on a 1.58 launch. A big thank you to Steve Wood for helping me over the years.

I think the converter is too loose and it's not hitting the tires as hard as it should. . That's an opinion and not a fact ☺

I'm always open to opinions...and any help is always greatly appreciated.  :)

Did you use the numbers we talked about? Bit rich in low as we suspected but it was flying

I got scared with the low temps this morning...and I added 15% high gear fuel. High gear fuel also affects overall fueling...so I suspect that's why the low gear fueling is a little rich. Frost warning in effect tonite...so I don't know what to do for tomorrow.

Let's look at the short time. 2 weeks ago I launched around 4900 RPM...and it went 1.73. Today I boosted it up too quick...and it started pushing...and ended up with a 1.72 short time...but left at 4100 RPM. I had a look at a pic a friend of mine took of me launching earlier this year...and the rear didn't squat at all. I softened the rear QA1's up one notch this morning...thin king that the car needed some more weight transfer. Looking at the 800 RPM launch difference...a nd the identical short times...do you think if I had of boosted it up slower this morning...and launched at 4900...that the short time would have decreased with the shock adjustment?

6.93 at 103.47 this morning. Didn't take my time boosting it...and pushed it through the lites. Trans is flairing on the 2-3 shift...as can be seen in the data.

Be sure to inspect the new caps for the chamfer to match the block. Bought an engine from one of the locals a few years back. He kept taking the mains out of it on startup...3 times. He reluctantly sold me the engine. Had a look at it...and the two steel center main caps didn't have the chamfer on 'em. His machinist torqued the caps down each time...and align honed it...degreased it...and handed him the block each time. If his machinist had of loosened the caps and then retorqued them and rechecked...li ke your suppose to after and align hone/bore...he would have noted they were tight/loose all over the place like I did when I checked them. I took the caps/block to a friends machine shop and had the caps machined to fit the block...and had an align hone done. Engine is still in service to this day.

Larry, I saved the 4 main caps from the block I had to scrap last June due to the cracked cylinder. If we haven't sold them...do you want the two center caps? If they aren't sold...you can have 'em.

Larry...ask your friend if those 2 caps have the chamfer in them that fit into the block. I've seen this before.

I'm very specific when I have my engines built. A machinist should check the mains with an elongated dial indicator. Each main is checked at 12, 3. 6 and 9 o'clock. If plastigauge showed evenly across the face of each main for clearance...an d the crank turned freely...then I'm at a loss to explain what happened. The main "tightened" up for some reason. The block, cap and crank will have to be magged for heat cracks.

Coil pack, ignition module, and 02 sensor if you have 'em.
