General Auto Tech / 80 Z28 No Start Question

Drove the 80 Z28 for about 2 hours straight. Pulled up in front of the house...and shut it off. Decided I'd put it in the driveway. Turned the key...and nothing...with the exception of the headlights dimming somewhat. Went out the next morning...and it turned over no problem. I'm thinking the starter or solenoid is getting hot. I'm fairly certain both are original form 1980. When I turned the key over when I went to start it up after the two hour run, the key can be removed in the on position. Could it also be the ignition switch where the key goes in?

Got a 1998 GM alternator here that drops to 12 volts at idle...but goes to 14 above 1500 rpm's. What's gone wrong inside of it?

I've made my piston choice for the new engine...next up is what brand of roller lifter to use. I'm looking for opinions which is the most durable...and I don't care if they're noisy.

General Buick Tech / Rear Pinion Yoke Question

What rear pinion yoke comes stock in these cars? I'm getting a measurement of 1.75" on the bolt centers for the strap...and an approximate size of 1.13" for the cup...but that's with the cup in the yoke. Was gonna order a girdle to replace the straps while I'm swapping out the axles.

Slide ahead to 6.40. Watch me say bye bye when I lay into it in 2nd gear. Keep an eye on the smoke from my car. That was the cracked cylinder. Julios overflow bottle was full after each run. Had to empty it and top the rad off each run.

New engine fired up today without a hitch. SM numbers were bang on...and she runs as smooth as silk.

Opinions wanted. I have a decision to make. I have the rotating assembly out of the block with the cracked cylinder. I have a standard bore block. One of the .030 over pistons is scrap...was damaged from the crack in the cylinder. Do I purchase a new .030 over piston and have this block bored .030 over for the this rotating assembly...or do I toss the 5 remaining .030 over pistons and order new .010 overs...as I'm positive this block will 'clean' at .010 over.
