IHADAV8 Playground / Re: Flipping cars
« on: August 23 2018, 05:26:11 PM »
I've flipped cars before.  I only ever made a huge profit on one vehicle.  Basically, buying vehicles and then getting them to a point where I was satisfied with them would give me something to do and learn along the way. Once I was done with them I would sell them.  More of a hobby then a business plan.
Anyone flip stuff on the side?

Ive found a car that I’m seriously considering purchasing and flipping. It’s a clean 99 Mustang (I know). 4.6/5 speed, and the a/c is supposed to work. Now for the fun stuff, it’s got a on3 turbo kit with the base 70mm@7psi (which requires an aftermarket k-member), cams, newer clutch, exhaust, and comes with boxes of parts to turn it up (whatever that means, alky kit maybe?). Basically the owner shipped out to the navy, and his dad just wants it gone. It needs a though detail maybe some wiring cleaned up, and maybe some different oem style wheels.

Pros: it’s the right price and could be a easy payday if everything goes right.
Cons: it’s a ford, it’s a 2 valve 4.6, could be a nightmare.

Any thoughts?
It's OK til some asshole drills the piss out of it and than wants you to buy them a trans or engine. Or they nag you for a couple months about every little rattle or what "their mechanic" says. Telling them "As is" usually goes in one ear and out the other.

The bolts are just pushing against the hub. Sometime the threads in the rotor give up. Take your favorite rust breaker and soak around the hub and rotor surface and the base of each wheel stud.

Lot of you  might be sick of my 442 stories, but the discussion here applies. I bought it in 1975, I was a senior in HS. I would love to see it totally restored as in the day it came off the showroom floor. It is 90% original and still runs great. The paint is tired, but when I take it to the  Carlisle show, detail it and it looks good. I had one guy come up, stare at the front end, and said: you still have the original headlights. I love that stuff. My 68 Rebel, somebody did a shit paint job and a lot of other crappy stuff. I get so many comments on it the way it is, and it is truly a driver. I haven't any plans of doing any restoration work, plus it's so hard to get part. What I see what people call a total restoration is like i said earlier: what it looked like the day it came off the showroom floor. I did major resto work to Thomas' 87 Ramcharger and my 72 GMC. I'm done with that kind of work. I would like to build a Rat Rod tho.

Like any other stuff tried and discussed, what do you want out of your car?

You are 100% right. When dad and i opened our shop, I bought one used for 700 bucks. Still have some of the meters stored in the shed. Joel, next time remind me I'll show it to you. That was the day of the live scope, now everything is digital. I'd like to have an old Sun distributor bench. And Earl, way to the right is a vacuum gauge.
