Well, Glen is correct...any one that spends enuf time reading will know that universally added zddp is not needed.
The requirement depends upon the amount of zddp in the oil being used as well as the spring pressure being applied to the cam.
If one reads all the articles out there that started the scare, one notices that they were talking about high performance cams with very high spring pressures...no t cams like ours...and imported lifters that were not properly hardened.
What we see in play here is a vendor and a bulletin board that are in collusion with one another to sell a product.
It is strange that we don't see a tremendous rash of failures from all those that have not been "enlightened" as to the miraculous benefits of excessive zddp. Maybe those GM engineers and oil company engineers are really stupid, but, the data do not support that.
Every one and their uncle is selling zddp enriched oils these days...I see Edelbrock is the latest to jump on the bandwagon...ce rtainly no reason to buy magic in a bottle that may actually upset the chemical balance in the original oil.

Glen is right and his girls are hot :cool;
Here is some reading http://www.blackstone-labs.com/Newsletters/Gas-Diesel/November-1-2010.php
-
The next big product for the Buick market will be zddp enriched Kool-Aid. It will increase the urea in your urine and allow you to pee directly into your diesel's gas tank to reduce emissions.
-
I eat extra asparagus for that effect
-
Wow...I just read that thread. If it's not curtailed, that thread is destined to be one of those "epic" ugly "fail" threads.
-
Scott Keller from gnttype doesn't put zddp in his unopened stock long block t, and has raced it exclusively for years. couple others in the local club with mostly stock or all stock high mile gns don't use it either. I've had this discussion with them before and they all told me I'd be the first one they'll report to when they have any type of valve train failure. lol!
I've been running royal purple for quite a while, and at this point, I'm only still doing so cause I get a good deal on it.

Here is a great write-up, timeline and myth buster about the subject http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/tech/oil/index.html

Who is "Glen"? And Micale and others have their panties in a bunch because someone is suggesting that the additive that Clark sells isn't needed and/or can cause damage?
-
Who is "Glen"?
-
Who is "Glen"?

Glen is a good guy. Get his banner up.
-
Tell him to send it to me, and I will.
-
yes, Glen is a straight shooter and a good guy.
This kinda crap is the reason I don't post over there.
-
Good to know. When I get Sylvan's POS, I will have to get friendly with Glen. :P
-
Ed, that is an excellent article that provides the truth rather than spreading the b.s. that we see so much of these days....I have seen several others that repeat the same but without as much detail as this article.
-
that was a really intersting read. One huge advantage corvette owners have over us is there is so many of them. There is massive groups that spend the time and money doing research on things that relate to them. For our cars it seems like there is so much subjective information out there.
-
Glen is a good guy. Get his banner up.
I emailed him and offered free banner space, we'll see.
-
ZDDP :rofl;
-
I have not been over there for a long time.
A friend got accused of bad mouthing a vendor there, he had spent ~25k with the vendor. Did everything the vendor requested of him. All fine and good when you expect a finished product. It never happened product never worked, number of wasted trips etc. I had known what happened and said something, got a few unpleasant PM's including from Shane.
Needless to say the friend was called a lair . . .
When my friend gets an apology from Shane I may go and read some there, not likely will ever happen. It is one thing to have a little fun; another to call someone a blatant lair.
So have I missed anything over there?

I finally found a source for Valvoline VV850 and been using that. I was using standard VR1 w/ZDDP though just because it was pushed so hard...live and learn I guess.

I just posted questions in my engine thread here regarding which oil to run.
I recently purchased some stuff from Glen at Highway Stars, real awesome company to deal with!! And he's sorta local to me, so parts come next day. I bought the heater hose kit for my GN there.
TB... I purposely posted a positive feedback thread there for Glen because of the good service I received. I got jumped over there hardcore when I spoke up about Lonnie Diers not keeping his word and jerking me around on a tranny he had been paid for. I received threats via PM, and harrasing phone calls at work.... Lonnie was gracious enough to give his nutswingers my contact info. Anyhoo I ended up being the bad guy, so I rarely post there anymore. I got into it with Shane pretty good, and he banned me for a month. I saw a pic of him.... Now I know why his control of the internet is so important!!!
-
I emailed Glen to let him know he could run a banner here for free. He said he looked around and liked that we aren't sponsor driven. I'm still waiting for the banner - but the offer is there.
-

wow :thunder:
-
just read the thread...glen cannot post over there...feel bad for him...he is a stand up guy and supports the Buick Community and the BPG.
-
He actually paid for advertising at some point didn't he? I'm sure I remember a welcome...
-

Sounds like TB.com politics - kiss the ass of those with the most money.

Yes he can. He's a paying vendor.
-
used to be that Highway Stars and NOS4GN were banned names still not listed as a sponsor....but you can now see them in posts...so I stand corrected
-
I would never post this on the yellowboard, because I would probably be assailed by a pack of maddog devotees, but I had a very bad experience with Lonnie Diers. I've never said this to anyone before, but doing business with him was a nightmare. And, as long as I'm on the attack, I can say the same for Brian Weavy.
For my money, the best vendors I've encountered in the TB community are Glen, John Spina at Caspers, and Mike Licht.

Do not judge a person by how they look as that is messed up.
What they do and how they do it means more.
I am ugly, but I will help . . .

That makes two of us.
I judge TB.com by the amount of nutswinging assholes on there, and there savior SGRIM :D I don't like how people get treated if they have a legitimate beef with a paying vendor. The only feedback wanted is good feedback. Negative feedback must not be included in the vendor cost....
-
I don't think I've had a problem with any of the vendors and I've bought products from most of them. Spent a fortune with ATR, still in disbelief that they're gone. Same with Postons.
-
Glen's banner is up. I see myself spending a lot with that man.
