Thread sealer recommendation
« on: July 18 2006, 12:43:07 PM »
I put a new water pump on the other day. Then, I fired it up for about 5 minutes and noticed a little white smoke from the cut out. The instructions didn't say anything about thread sealer, so -duh- I didn't put any on. I realized now that 4 of those bolts enter the water jacket. Jesus, man. Anyway- anybody have a favorite thread sealer to recommend...an d how much do you put on these bolts?

Shit, I think I used a little teflon sealer on it... maybe even teflon tape? I can't remember for shit.

I use liquid teflon. You can buy it at any hardware store.
It's used for threaded pipe. Check your oil too. Some coolant could have leaked on the inside of the timing cove as well.

'Check' my oil?! I drained that shit immediately... .it started milking right away. Fortunately, I don't run any antifreeze or things could've been worse.

Oh hey, when you remove the offending bolts, be sure to clean the threads off with a wire brush, just to clean up the threads.
