Tilt Steering Fix - Loose Steering Wheel
« on: August 15 2011, 01:05:43 AM »
Cudos to Steve Wood.  I searched this problem and found a link you provided on TBS.com.  I followed the instructions and got my tilt steering tightened up nicely.  This was a very intimidating procedure for me.  I HATE going into the steering column.  Here is the link to the original thread and the link Steve provided to GNTTYPE.org.

Tilt Steering Wheel fix

I wanted to post this here so that it would show up in a search on this site.

Funny - a loose tilt column is what got me into Turbo Buicks in the first place. My first Regal was an 86 NA Limited. Beautiful car. Landau light, pillow seats... The column was wiggling, so I searched all over and and somehow I found Mark Martone, he lived in Clearwater FL. Went over there, we became friends. He called me a week later saying he found an 86 TType for sale. I bought it, and have had one or 2 TRs in the driveway since then. That was over 12 years ago. :)

many thanks for the links !!

i bought that manuel
http://www.steeringcolumnservices.com/steering-column-repair-how-to-instructions/gm-buick-cadillac-chevrolet-oldsmobile-pontiac/GM-Tilt-Column-Rebuild-Instructions.php

with the other link i will try the operation

thanks

claude

Take a LOT of pictures, hell, video tape it if you can, that will help with the reinstall. There's a shit ton of small parts in there, take your time, study the pieces as you remove them. It will take some time, but not really that bad.

Good luck! :)

Cool!

Take a pic of the spring with a coin for reference.. Maybe we can figure out what it is.
