General Buick Tech / Wipers catching bottom of windshield
« on: September 06 2019, 01:13:25 PM »
hey guys

The passenger side wiper blade is catching on the metal shield at the bottom of the windshield.  It only does it when the blades are parking.  It looks like the metal panel is not sitting as tight against the windshield as it should.  The windshield was replaced probably 10 years ago, and I donít think Its driven in the rain since.  Are there some clips missing? Or does it need to come off and be gently bent to adjust it?

General Buick Tech / razor's alky pump
« on: June 19 2018, 09:21:05 PM »
Hey guys

years ago I bought a used alky kit from Norbs, and I never got around to installing it.  At the time he suggested replacing the diaphragm in the pump before using it.   In the box of stuff he sent me, it came with a new one in a bag.  Just wondering are guys rebuilding their own pumps? If they are, where are they getting parts for the pumps.   I don't see pump parts on the alkycontrol site.   I guess I'm just asking is it worth trying to rebuild these things, or just stop being cheap and buy a new one for 160 bucks.

General Buick Tech / valve cover install
« on: May 26 2018, 04:44:29 PM »
I pulled my passenger side valve cover with the motor still in the car about 6 months ago.  I've forgotten how I was able to get the stupid thing out when I went to reinstall it today.  I've got it almost all the way on, but Its catching on stuff for the last inch or two.   I remember having to bar the engine over to get the rockers out of the way to get it off, but I haven't moved the engine since then.   Any tips or suggestions?

Car Stereo and Electronics / 6x9 rear speakers
« on: February 07 2017, 09:18:23 PM »

Hey guys.  I'm looking to install a set of 6x9 speakers I bought years ago for the buick.  They seem to be bigger than the last set I bought and won't fit with the adapters and the rear truck rods.  I'm thinking if I cut a a horizontal slot on the front side of the rear deck where the seats go they should bolt flush to the rear deck.  Is this how other people are doing it without using the adapters?  Tried looking for pics of other setups but not much luck.

General Buick Tech / Gas tank hard to fill at the pump
« on: May 20 2015, 11:54:08 PM »
Hey guys

I've been having an issue with my car when trying to fill the fuel tank at the gas station.   My car has an aftermarket tank that I got right after I bought the car, and honestly have no idea what brand it is.
I find that unless I hold the trigger really slow it is always burping back gas at me.  Fuel level doing this doesn't seem to matter.   Would this be a gas tank venting issue? or just modern gas pumps just flow fuel much faster now and the tank can't handle that much fuel going down the neck.

You figure making an 82 cutlass awd they'd spend a lot more photos on the awd part.

Paint and Body / Polishing GTA's
« on: January 11 2015, 06:33:31 PM »
Last winter I bought a set of GTA's fairly cheap that had the gold centers painted over, but was badly peeling.
After trying a few different ways to get the peeling paint off I decided to go with chemical stripper which also obviously took off the clear coat off the polished aluminum lip.

I then took one of my hubs for my LS1 brakes I've never bothered to install  yet on the brake lathe at work, and bolted the rim to the hub.  I sanded the crap out of the polished lip to get rid of the machined ridges and eventually sanded down to 2000grit.

I then just recently picked up a polishing kit from Canada's version of harbor freight and started polishing the lip.
After having finished this on one rim I'm thinking I shoulda sanded maybe to a finer grit.  It looks quite shiny when polished but was thinking I suppose it could be a clearer shine if that makes sense.

Would I be better off sanding to a finer grit? or buying the next stage of clay bar for a more polished look.  The last polish I used the white bar.   Also any suggestions on a wax or coating I can put on the polished aluminum to help it keep its shine without having to buff the crap out of it monthly once its on the car?

IHADAV8 Playground / fuel mileage
« on: September 01 2013, 01:57:45 PM »
Every-time I work on one of our newer bucket trucks it makes me laugh when you go through the dash settings to see the average fuel mileage on them.  They bought gas powered f-450's instead of diesels to save money on the original price of the truck.

IHADAV8 Playground / first drive of the season
« on: August 31 2013, 08:09:27 PM »
I finally got the car out for a real drive for the first time of the season in 4 years.    It was pretty sweet finally having a bunch of bs stuff that didn't work actually work.   It was nice having a gas gauge, and a trip meter, and a rad that wasn't half plugged and to have electric fans that actually turned on, on their own.  The car used to run around 205 before and now is about 168-170 on a cool day like today.

It was good for for a nice cruise in it but I found a bunch of stuff that I will have to deal with next spring.  I need to finally complete all the repairs on the spring cleaning.   I plan on replacing the original timing chain and gears, and valve springs and original injectors next spring and then hopefully then I can actually start to play with it.   I'm just glad I could drive it around.   I guess now for the next bunch of stuff to save up for.   I can't decide what eats money faster, my house or my cars.

General Buick Tech / analog dash electrical connector plug
« on: August 15 2013, 06:49:05 PM »
hey guys

I was taking my cluster out to fix a few issues with it and I seem to have damaged the plug that goes into the back of it.  I'd like to just replace the one terminal that I broke on the male side of the plug.  I was searching caspers website and I didn't see what i think I need.   Any suggestions where to find this style of terminal?

IHADAV8 Playground / Golden Eye N64 meets Go-Pro cam NSFW
« on: August 12 2013, 12:31:01 PM »
A pretty cool video that reminds me of playing N64's golden eye back in the day.   Since it takes place in russia that might actually be a normal day there.   Also NSFW because of people being shot and the lyrics of the song.

General Buick Tech / unhooked wire
« on: August 11 2013, 11:10:28 AM »
Hey guys

I was moving my sending unit for my temp gauge because I had it in the wrong spot and I'd disconnected a few wires to get in there easier.   I found after i was done I had one left over that I couldn't for the life of me figure out where it plugs in.   Any idea's what it is for and where it goes?   It's the single red wire.

General Buick Tech / Adjusting windows
« on: June 28 2013, 04:25:26 PM »
My car has brand new weather stripping and is a t-top car.   I've recently assembled most of the car and was working on getting the windows to close nice.   With the new weather stripping it seems like the motors aren't strong enough to push the windows up tight against them.
I can adjust them so that when they are up and I close the door they seal, but I refuse to have a stupid window I can't close properly when driving.
When doing the adjusting I had the trickle charger on the battery so I assume it was getting enough voltage.  I also replace the window switches because the chrome was falling off, and they were worn out and loose feeling.
Any suggestions on what I should do?  I have the same issue on both sides.  Is this a not enough power to the motors issue? or I just haven't gotten the windows to the perfect spot yet?
