What sound does snow sliding off a roof make?

Come on, Rich!  It sounds like an avalanche. Heavy snow can easily collapse a roof.  And another thing that is dangerous is icicles.  Especially falling from real high places.  It's like being stabbed by a sword, actually spear.  And those things can stick to your tongue if you lick them.  Two years ago we had ice fall on 2 guys vehicles, broke the windshield of one, dented the hood of the other and put a hole in the bumper.

Our snow rarely lasts a day and isn't really snow like I remember growing up in the seventies in Marshfield, WI. Big drifts up to the eves of the house and being able to tunnel around in the snow. It barely gets an inch or two here . The ice on the road ways and bridges are what causes the most problems. People think they can drive like normal then they get to the bridge or over pass and slam on the brakes. Of course, those behind try to do the same and the vehicles go every which way, into each other and the side barriers. I just call work and tell them I'm not coming as it isn't worth bending up a car for a days wage. Rarely lasts more than a day. I watch it on tv. It is a riot to hear what some of them have to say on camera.

We saw 1*F yesterday... we're not even close to "cold" yet.

Few years back I was hauling commercial fuel in B train fuel tankers. One night I had to make a couple of drops in Sudbury in Jan. As I headed north the temps were around -30 to -35 on the outside temp gauge. By the time I arrived in Sudbury the temps were -46 and windy!    This is approx midnight to 1am with nobody........ I mean NOBODY around! That night I was a tad bit nervous to say the least. That's brisk baby!!

Jim, that is an average northern temperature.  When I lived up north we would get -53 to -55 and warm up to -45, with no wind.  When I worked in the Territories it was -60 and -67 with the wind.  Needless to say I did get frost bite under my eyes that were exposed from my face mask.

I understand that.........w as just pointing out that these temps can get very dangerous in certain situations.
 And I completely lost focus in my post, which was to mention that when I got to my locations I had to shovel 6" of snow off the fill lids in the ground in order to find them, and access the fills. When ya gotta shovel this crap on the job as well it sucks!

Jim, I was just joking around.  But at -55 if you don't have two block heaters it is like starting a car at -40 without one.  Either way cold and lots of snow can be a big pain especially at work!

I shoveled twice yesterday and once today.  A total so far of 40" of snow for the last two months.

Yall are kinda making me wanna shovel so today I used a shovel and leveled the dirt around a rotten stump till I started to sweat. It's going to be beautiful and in the 70s again for the next few days.

The driveway was plowed before I got up this morning, a good start for certain.

Now time to do some "detail work" before the freezing rain comes... again.

Last evening was annoying , rain coming off the roof had no where good to go with the eaves and downspouts (and ground) still frozen. Lake daveismissing.

Got a record 28cm last night.  And stared down a snow plow to have a discussion with the plow truck driver (told him to call his supervisor) about the need for snow removal as our snowbanks are over 6' high and the snow being pushed off the is too heavy/awkward to manage.  Frozen boulders are not acceptable contibutions to the municipal snow management effort.

10-20cm more tomorrow.
