oil leak inside turbo

Have a small oil leak, must be internal on the turbo, oil escapes at connection between turbo outlet and intercooler. Very small. I was going to remove intercooler and flush out with some gasoline, I'm assuming there is oil built up inside it also.

Assuming you do not have the vent line from the end of valve cover to connected to the turbo inlet, then it is a seal in the turbo leaking and it will get worse.

If you do have the line connected, remove it and put a push in KN filter into the end of the cover.  Put a rubber vacuum style cap over the turbo inlet.

Flush out the IC and go on.

Vent line is not attached, its a seal . Like you said, wait til the next issue comes up. Is replacing those seals a DIY job or do I need to take it somewhere. Looked in the manual you suggested getting and it seems pretty straight forward, but if I need a press or special tools I'm screwed.

instructions for a rebuild are on gnttype but I think I would suggest a rebuild by someone like John Craig at Limit Engineering or a replacement

When it croaks, if I'm going to have the expence I'm thinking ahead. At some point I want to add alchy. But thats it, no extreme build ups or anything. Should I get a stock rebuild or upgrade to a slighlty bigger turbo?

If you want alky, then a 49 or a 44 is the perfect upgrade,

you might look around for a mullet that thought his twelve second car will run tens if he dumps the 44 or 49 and buys a bigger turbo.....a good used 44 or 49 will do the trick as well.  check the tb.com for sale ads

Steve, Full Throttle has the TE 34 57mm for $599...is that the stocker? If it is...mite be cheaper for him to buy it, than paying to have his rebuilt. He can throw alky at it later.

No, that is one step up from a stocker...not a bad little turbo...I ran one many years ago....it should make high elevens on alky.  For some reason, FT is only showing me one turbo today

okay, I see it...and also a 5831 billet for $649....I guess that is a billet wheel replacement for the 44?   Might be a good one as well.
