finally got a day to tune a little. re-set FP to 43 with hose off, put it back on and set out. started with top of 3rd tuning, got it down to 808 and then went to first gear/ launch tuning. I have a knock alarm, and what I believe to be tire spin related, knock alarm goes off, SM didn't record any knock. So any way, launched twice, both times alarm goes off so I lift. I have first gear TT chip set at 125, 3 lower than default. I go again and ignore alarm and keep in it ( probably not smart but pretty sure it false) run it up to about 100 and check recall, shows low O2's of 782 at 96mph and .02 knock at 21, run again, alarm goes of as tires start to spin, run it up to about 100 again and hit recall. This time its shows 796 at 98mph and 4.2 knock at 17 mph.
down pipe seems to have plenty of room around it? really cant figure out this knock/false knock issue. before I started tuning, just pissing around with chip on defaults it was kicking the alarm off when I would jump on it from a stand still??
Any ideas where to look next? I would think if its real knock it wouldn't be going away and it dosent happen at higher speed full throttle runs

Get it back together and start to tune it. Go out to shop after a few test runs and have a puddle of coolant looks like the upper rad hose outlet on the radiator has developed a leak. I replaced both hoses when I did the motorwork and it must have cracked when I did that......I love this car until I hate this car

Hey guys, hope someone has an idea where I can find something, checked usual vendors and couldn't find it. I'm looking for the piece of silver trim that goes from the radio pod to the pass door, just over the glove box. On mine a lot of the silver is flaking off and it looks like crap, but I cant find a replacement.
Thanks

Hello guys! I should get the last of my parts tomorrow. Been educating myself as much as possible on this project. My question is does this sound like a good plan. I was going to put in 6 quarts of Valvoline and one bottle of Lucas engine break-in oil additive with new filter. Cross my fingers that it fires up and runs well, and run it at 2000 RPM's, moving up to 2500 every 5 minuets for a minuet, for 25 minuets. Dump that oil out, put in fresh oil and my usual ZDDP, new filter and drive as usual.
Please let me now if this sounds ok. Also what weight oil would be best for break-in? Was going to use 10W40 but don't know what to use, no place really says???
Thanks again!!!

Right now I have 275/40/17 street tires, on 17x10 rims ( I know, shit for racing) but it is what it is. This summer when funds improve I want to get different tires but stick with the 17 rims I have. With the limited options do you think a 315/35/17 Nitto would fit? I'm sure height will be ok but width might not? Thoughts....pl ease don't reply get different rims, I don't race enough to piss around with that so not an option. I want to work with what I have and do the best I can with that limitation.
Thanks!!

I have the adjustable Hellwig bar and for racing, which hole should I be using of the 3. For now I have in the middle, would I be better off in the inward or in the end hole for racing? If weather is good, track day this Sunday and looking forward to seeing how much the new converter will help!!!

Has anyone put one of these in? you can get 2 different ratios, I believe our stock is 6 turns lock to lock. They have 3 and 2 turns lock to lock available. Just wondered is anyone had tried them. Would love to improve this on my car if they work well.

Okay probably sound stupid but here it is. I have had a lifter tick in my car forever and my OCD cant leave it alone. My question is this. I have it narrowed down to the pass side. if I remove the valve cover and roll motor until intake is wide open, and feel if there is any play in pushrods, then do same until exhaust is wide open and check push rods again, will I be able to notice a difference in pushrod movement, if any, to figure out which one it is?

Got some money I can put into car!! So what I want to do is upgrade and quiet down the valvetrain. I have owned many Gm 3800's and they all have been such quiet motors. I want this one to be the same. With my new convertor it has made a noisy motor even worse. What is a good combo of cam and rockers that will make good power and also be QUIET. As always, thanks for any help

Been trying to determine/locate a ticking noise since I got the car. Thought I found it yesterday with 2 small exhaust leaks where the crossover meets the pass side header........ nope So took a 3 ft piece of hose and listened everywhere. There are zero exhaust leaks. Listened all over the valve covers, intake, alternator has a small tick but that's not it. Where I hear it is on a round black plastic part on front of motor. I don't know what this is, think it's the cam sensor. Can this tick be adjusted away on this component or is it just transferring the noise of a bad lifter or cam lobe to this component where I can hear it? Farther back on the engine I can't hear the ticking anywhere with the hose??? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Back to this one. Seems most like to not use gaskets. What's an effective way to true up manifold surface in a DIY manner?
