I've JUST fallen in love with 35mm, after bagging on them for a while due to my love of 120. I've come to accept my profound love for this old 1968 Pentax Spotmatic I've been whoring. All aluminum, broken light meter and no auto-focus, it's brutal beautiful.

Anyway, gimme the the skinny on your Ricoh and any examples you have of the pics it takes. Does it have the m42 (screw mount) lens? I've been looking to get one now, but want to know your opinion before I buy my next old camera.
-
I haven't used it much lately. I think it takes awesome pictures though.
That Pentax has some character though. Instead of a Ricoh, I'd recommend
an old Canon AE-1 or F-1. Nikons are also nice. I recommend those because they have alot more affordable accessories available for them. The Ricoh from
what Ive seen is only compatible with ricoh accessories, and I believe that its
the same with Pentax. However there are more accessories available for a
Pentax as compared to a Ricoh.
Speakin of Canon, my boss has an old AE-1 with all kinds of stuff with it that he doesn't use since he went digital. He showed me some of his pics. The man has talent ! I may ask him if wants to sell it when I'm in a better financial state....
-
I started looking for f-1's and then put my tail between my legs to run home after I saw the prices on these things! I did see some ae-1's and I foudn a few at-1's, the full manual version. Not too shabby, thanks for the advice. I'll think I'll be snagging an old Canon soon.
-
F1's are fucking awesome, thats why they're sooooo expensive.
Nikons are the choice of our government, due to their reliability.
There's alot of bling available for them too.
-
I've got my black body AE-1 half apart right now. It was working fine and I mounted a Vivitar wide angle zoom on it and it hasn't worked right since. Getting them fixed at a camera shop is a joke. They just send them away somewhere. There must be one camera repair shop in Mexico that actually fixes all broken 35MM's. I may just pick up a body on e-bay. Tons of them available for around $100. Hell, I paid $240 for my body in 1978....overse as. I've got a few lenses for it and a kick-ass mallet type Metz Mecablitz flash for it with a zoom extender for it. It concentrates the flash so it goes out several hundred feet. Why I bought it, I don't know. I was thinking "This will be cool for concert photos .......except you don't want to use a flash for them. It'll wash out all the lighting.
-
Nice! Another camera nerd. I'm torn between an F-1 and a Mamiya 23 or Universal now. I love me some medium format. I'll figure something out.
What's really sad is my digital Canon is collecting dust while I hunt out all these old cams. She'll get some abuse in my upcoming photo classes though.
GSGN, I can find you a guy to send your Canon to directly, give me a few days.

I've had good luck with 800 asa and no flash in those situations. But they do get a little grainy if you enlarge them too much.
-
I dug it out, and its ready to go with a roll of Konica 400.
-
Hell yes!
I love 400 speed.
-
We didn't go to the track today. However, my boss gave me some wicked cool stuff.
He gave me a diffuser attachment, and a couple of filters. One is blue, and the other is half brown fading into clear. He also has a filter that makes stars out of light spots in a scene. He couldn't find it though. He's going to look at his house for it. Woot ! :supz:
-
Nice. I need to start collecting filters. See if you can score a neutral density filter.
One cool trick Sarah Moon does is put the cellophane off a pack of cigarettes over her lens for a soft focus effect.
-
I tried a couple of double exposure shots of me standing in front of my p/u truck.
What I did was use the light meter to see what shutter speed would yield a normal
exposure. I then set up my tripod and set the camera on it at half that speed and
slightly out of focus. Using the timer, I then ran and posed in front of the truck for
the pic. I then went back to the camera and focused it. Also at half speed, I took another pic in the same frame. If it comes out like I wanted, I should look like a ghost standing in front of the truck.
-
Nice. I ghosted a friend into a a slide shot I took in a cave. I just set the cam on bulb and estimated a few seconds. Then I put the lens cap over it and had him sit in the frame and I toook it off and estimated a few more seconds and closed the shutter. One of the many reasons I love film.
-
I shot a roll and a half today. :smt071
-
Nice. I'm taking advanced photo lighting and I think imma use my Pentax for all the projects. The studio at this school is no joke.

Shweet ! The only photography I ever did in
school was the pin hole camera, and later on I was in A/V and used the
video cameras alot. Everything else I had to figure out for myself. I
frequently watch for night school class listings to see if there are any photography classes. Most are probably digital oriented now though. My digital is starting
to go on its way out. Its starting to exihibit a lot of light saturtation lately for
no apparent reason ?
-
The sensor is dying probably.
This school is bomb because they stress b&w work. They have a full lab and everything, with pro medium format cams and shit. I can't wait to wrap my hands a Mamiya 645. And the class is about $78, can't beat that! And there's hot chicks in it too!

I'm now considdering moving...

Brian, you won't believe this. While I was at work today, my boss goes and says," I
have something for you to take with you, thats been laying around under the desk".
He then hands me the case. In it is his old Canon AE-1 Program, a Pentax MG, and
a whole shit load of accessories.
-
Score!!!! Lucky Bastard!!
-
LoL, yeah! Let the fun begin!
-
You my friend are a bastard to, like Lee and his new GN. I've been looking for an F1 lately. Nice cams!

THe F1 is the Holy Grail of 35mm SLRs. :prayer:

Nice. Now I have "Canon envy". Thanks Rob. :sad;
-
I've always wanted either a Canon or a Nikon so I
could get some cool stuff for it like a Fish eye lense,
or a zoom lense like the Hubbell. LOL...
-
Rob, your new Canon lens is called the FD mount:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_FD
-
I found this too.
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/SLRs/index.htm
I'm curious about the Pentax MG as well. Its all manual. It has
a timer for the shutter that when you push it, you actually wind the timer.
Kinda like one of those cars you'd get as a kid that you pull back to wind
them up before you let them go.
-
Here are some Ricoh pics.
These first 3 are sunset pics that I took while camping
this past Labor Day.
-
Here are some experimental pics.
Lights is a double exposure.
One I made especially for S6. :rofl;
And the last was done using only the light from
the camp fire.
-
...and this is my impression of Nero ! :psix; :psix; :psix;
Enjoy.
-
Cool pics RR!!!
-
Very nice pictures.
-
I have some more that I'll post after I downsize them.
Some cool racing pics from NHIS.
-
I want some trick long exposure shots! Rob, go here:
http://www.kodak.com/global/mul/professional/support/wrt/campaigns/GC00369/entry.jhtml
Four free rolls of Kodak's new film. Tell your friends. ;)
-
I saw your bulletin on myspace. I'm not sure, but I think
my Argus takes 120. I have a few shots that I experimented with
some double exposures and stuff that I haven't had developed yet.
If you look carefully on the S6 pic, you'll see a can of coke exposed into it.
It looks kinda blurry because I took it with a diffusion filter.
-
Nice pics yo!
-
Here are a few more from the track.
The SPO Corvette used to belong to Kevin Harvic.
That thing is Faaaaasssssst ! I'm surprised that the
tailpipe passed tech though. Its like 6" in diameter, and
hangs about 15" out past the side of the car. I'm waiting
to see somebody run it over....
-
Here are some more.
-
Some more Christmas light pics. This time with the Ricoh.
-
1 more.
-
Rob, I've been wanting to Holga those globe things for a while now! Didi you use a tripod? What film? Gimme some details man!
-
First 2 with a tripod. Second 2 without.
Kodak 400 ASA Long exposure with smallest
apeture for best field of view possible.
I just shot another 2 rolls tonight. 1 with the Ricoh, and
one with the Canon. I drove my mom around for about 4 hours looking at
Christmas lights. I got a couple pics with my cat investigating the tree.
I took a couple of moon shots too. We had a large crescent moon tonight.
I did a long exposure with a 210mm zoom doubled to 420mm.
I took another with the Ricoh mounted sideways through silouettes
of apple trees with a 4pt star filter set horizontally to make the appearance
of a cross. It'll bee pissa if it comes out. (fingers crossed)
-
I forgot to mention...
While I was out playin Santa this afternoon, Iwas at a buddies house talking about dark rooms. I was offered some developing equipment a few weeks ago, but
turned it down because I don't have the room to set it all up. My buddy used to have a dark room in his basement, but disassembled it a few years ago. He told me to
get the stuff I was offered, and we'd set it all up again. I plan on building another
pinhole or two. Muh ha ha ha !
-
FUCK yes! I want to get into pinhole photo too, especially the trick ones with the curved planes and such. You got damn creative with those lenses huh? I'm jealous. I expect shots man.

Sorry, you'll have to wait. I can't send 'em out "til Tuesday". :rofl; Sorry its late...
-
I took a couple of moon shots too. We had a large crescent moon tonight.
I thought I was the only crazy shit taking pics tonight of that waxing crescent.

LOL...pretty funny.
-
Pretty Funny?.............. .....This is pretty/funny.
-
I got some more pics back yesterday. I'll get em up when I have a chance.
-
Here are a few of the pics that I mentioned.
The camera moved while taking a pic of the crescent moon, but
I put it up anyways because I actually got the whole moon so
that it was visible. This pic was with the AE-1 as well as the "MERRY X-MAS"
lights from my buddy's roof. the rest were taken with the Ricoh.
-
Here are some more. I used a 4pt. Star filter for these two pics.
The Moon pic was more than appropriate for Christmas Eve. I'm
glad it came out.
-
wow, that was a good picture.
-
Pretty Funny?.............. .....This is pretty/funny.
EEEEEEEEEEEK!!
-
You don't know who "Carrot Top" is ? :bigeyes;
Famous comedian...
-
I have heard of him, not to crazy about him........Lov e the Dice man he is my fav, and also starting to like "Carlos Mencina", he is a trip.......DEE EDEEEDDD,
-
George Carlin and Larry the Cable Guy are still my favorites.
Too bad Robin Williams doesn't do stand up anymore...
-
I used to think Larry the Cable guy was good, but since I moved down here, all I hear is the people say "Git R Done". It is everywhere, on trucks and bumperstickers . Bryan really likes George Carlin.
God, I wish the Dice would come back.
-
I think Dice's material got to stagnant, and people became annoyed
with it. Unfortunately too many people are into all the "politically correct" BS
these days for someone like the "Dice" to hit it big any more.
-
Very True, when I worked at Allstate, The people I worked with got mad because I had pictures of the Buick and my Dice man in my office. They would tell me how I should not like him...Actually have you seen Carlos Mencina on yet? Watch him, he is funny, and I know he pisses the crap out of people.
-
Nice filter work. Can you see the points through the viewfinder well?

They don't show up as well as they do in the pics, but you can see them if you look for them.

Whoops, sorry, lol

If there was hair on my camera bodies, I'd hump them.
