Title: Braided Ground Question

There's a braided ground that runs from the firewall to the transmission bellhousing. What the heck does it ground?

I don't really know, but some cars that did not have it ended up with one of the transmission cables welded to the the sleeve as I recall

Don't think my cars have one anymore but I remember the shifter would freeze up
