in 65/66 I lived in Houston and saw a bunch of those cars run
-
The way they shift them cars is unreal.

In those days, we did not lift off the gas and, at most, stabbed the clutch about half way. I ran a 396 Chevelle one night and won. The guy said it was the fastest automatic plymouth he had seen. I told him it was a 4 spd and he had to look at the car before he believed me...I went thru a lot of synchronizers

That's great! There was a couple retired guys from the States that would come up and raced at the local strip with an old Chevy II. They raced the exact same way and were crazy consistent! I was very impressed.

Steve, what did you beat the 396 with?
-
383 and an Isky cam
-
Did you have 1 of these?

Steve, here's a gent that parks with me on a few practice sessions during the season. He told me he's gone through some expensive upgrades from the clutch on back to keep it alive. I've seen him run a handful of 11.2's. Not sure if he's dipped into the 10's. The car is MINT...and I do mean MINT. He drives in from the Durham area which is 90 minutes one way...and drives it back again. It's all motor...BBC.

P.S. Look between the grandstand seats and you'll see my GN and trailer parked there near the end of the vid.

That's a nice car!

Indeed, the way I wore out the M22 in my cutlass. In the later years the factory Hurst was a POS. sloppy sloppy sloppy w no adjustment.
