Thought I'd start a thread for posting up pics and anything else. Been watching the weather pretty close and decided to make a run for it. I've been planning this trip for 6 months, at least that's what the wife told me, so I'm gonna cannonball that way after work this evening. For sure going to get rained on the drive over.
-
Have a safe and fun trip!
-
We are jealous. Regardless of weather it's fun to be with the boys. Shenanigans.
-
I'm so close to pulling the trigger and just going. I haven't made any plans though. I suppose someone would let me shack up with them.

Made it about 230 this afternoon. Drizzling rain from Memphis till the race park. Forecast shows rain clearing late tonight early morning. I was told this place is normally packed by now but very few folks here. Met Fabro Cater and Don Cruz
-
Caters a good guy.
PS:Don't ask Don for any cam specs.

That was one of the topics brought up at the dinner table. Definitely more to the story than most realize

If I get introduced to him, I'll ask him for your rent money

Be careful he may trick you into 'footin' the bill'.

Rain stopped around 1 this afternoon and the track opened shortly after that. Made three passes with each one getting a little better. Still wittling away at the tune. First pass was at 19lbs and the last two passes was at 21lbs.
-
Those heads have big runners...they'll need velocity. Bump the boost to 23 and keep it fat. You'll get your 10 second time slip. I assume you're locking the convertor.
-
Look good. Keep whittling away at it.
Is it launching straight? Might need a bit more at the launch. Then you will have a ten sec slip.
-
Locking the converter at 90.
Working the tune at the start. Still too fat
-
I don't tune around 20 psi...or even 23 psi. At 20 psi with the 02's at the traps showing 820-830, I come back in and turn the rod in 2-3 turns. The extra boost brings the 02's down to the 770-780 range...and the car pulls like a freight train at 23 with the 6262. My thinking is this. Why bother leaning it out at low boost...and take a chance at smoking a pair of head gaskets. Why not turn the boost up a couple notches...leav e it fat...and haul ass. That LU convertor is prolly less efficient than my NL convertor until yours locks. Top end charge is where you're gonna fly.
-
Ran the numbers on the Wallace racing calculator. 7.36 slip % at the traps
-
Is 7.36 slip acceptable with a lock up converter?
You are backhalving the same as my car with a non- lock 3500 converter.

Here's some pics

Maroon limited belongs to Randel Asbury. 12k mile car. He is the second owner. We kind of have the limited tent. I've counter 6 limiteds here. There may be more but that's all I've seen.
Ken ran an 11.85. Having some issues with his boost puck not seating

Looks like a decent turn out. I hope Ken gets it squared away. In his vid it spun.
Thanks for the pix.

Tell Randall he's a traitor, he's supposed to be at Cecil! I hope someone soon changes their event date

Good luck Jason, that's a sweet looking car you have there. Sure seems there's a lot of Ltd's left out of the 1035 :icon_lol:

Up date for today. Car show kept the track shut down until 2 this afternoon. There were some damn nice cars that showed up. I even found an RX7 with an LC2 drivetrain installed. Took a pic just for Steve.
-
I met up with a friend of Brad's, Kevin. He is on the board here and I met up with Grumpy and his wife. Didn't get to talk with Russ but he was there as well. As we say in Texas, they are good people!
As for my outing today... Well let's just start from the top. My goal was to get a 10 second time slip with this combo. I made some runs last year at the ford vs buick event and identified a few things and mis-diagnosed a few others. It appears that I got most of that straightened out with the help of you guys here on the board. I appreciate you all! I was able to make a few passes today and continued to wittle down the tune. 1st pass at BG was a 12.5 at 116. Last pass at BG was a 10.98 at 125.96. I sure wish I knew how to tune but Rome wasn't built in a day....
-
Good run! I'm happy for you 👍
Get it to hook and you have a mid ten.
Tuning is vastly over rated. Concentrate on low gear. The other gears are easy
-
AWESOME!!!
Nice work.
-
Congrats! Ya' gotta stay calm...lol!!!!!!!
Steve, I was on the phone with Jason during the afternoon a few times. On the 11.4 run he left the line at 2500 and went a 2.0. I had him bump the rpm's up to 2900 and have at it. The car responded with a 1.8...but started pushing through the lites. He said the convertor flashed to 3450...which isn't enuf. My thots are the convertor may be a tad tight...the rear brakes aren't holding enuf...or the low gear tune isn't up to snuff.
To no surprise the low gear fueling in that chip is pig rich. He was pulling 2 percent low gear fuel on each run and added a couple degrees of low gear timing.
Jason, grab your laptop and find Kevin. Get Grumpy and Russ to have a look at the 10 second run. They'll help you decipher it and give you recommendation s. You're surrounded by some of the very best in the Buick world...ask questions.
-
I have come around to your school of thought on converters after helping William all these years. I would say he needs at least another 600-700 rpm of flash stall. I suspect the car will not be as rich in low with the right converter but that's my theory and may well not be fact :D

Well fella's' I made it home this evening. Definitely a fun few days. Lots of stuff to put away and get back at the grind.
Met a lot of nice and fun people. One fella jumped in the pool at the hotel for 10 bucks. Next night there was a midget blow up doll. You can imagine the shenanigans going on.
Big thanks to Brad for calming me down in between runs, also want to thank Kevin for helping out even though I had just met him.
Steve, tune is so fat in low gear that boost doesn't build as it should. Track was very, very sticky but wasn't open for very long each day. I counted four cars that broke something in their rear diff carrier after launch. Kevin watched my 11.1 pass from the lanes and car launches straight with a solid patch on each tire. I didn't spin on any of the 7 passes I made. I'm going to have a look at the master cylinder to see if it's bleeding down after applying pressure.
I had lots of folks telling me what to change in the tune but no one to explain where to do it on the SD2. Studying the logs and looking at little bubbles then applying changes where I thought it would make a difference worked for the most part but I took baby steps with the adjustments. I could've leaned the high gear a bit more but felt it was safe where it was at and concentrated on the low gear. Anyway, I am pleased with the progress that was made this weekend. Car has little more in it. Boost on the best pass was 23-24 with the creep from the internal gate. Get that short time figure out and it may be a 10.5 car with this current boost level. I may head to little River and work on launching once I look at the brakes and tune some more.
One more thing... Kevin called my car a little rocket. I like it

Congrats on the 10 sec run! Looks like an awesome time!
-
Thanks guys! Appreciate all of you!
-
I hate you now. ;)
-
Sounds like a good time! Congrats on 10s.
-
Congrats Jason
How was the weather when your ran? Any humidity?
I was hoping to chisel my Ltd down into the low 11's but could only muster a 11.51
It was pretty warm and humid.....not making excuses. Getting my 60' dialed in better this year though. Managed a 1.58 a couple weeks ago and 1.62 this weekend, clutches are done on the posi now. Always something

Mid 80's and probably 70% humidity by that part of the day when I made the 10 second pass. It was warm and muggy. We calculated DA to be around 2300 feet.
Congrats on the short time! I guess I need to get some lessons from you on launching. I was pleased with how straight my car launched and but I didn't really have any good short times. 1.733 was the best I could muster. I don't remember if you upgraded your rear end but I put in some 30 spline Moser's and an Eaton tru-trac.
