Title: Intake gasket?
Post by: Forzfed on July 26 2017, 11:20:23 AM
I'm going to be putting together my motor soon.  What is the best intake gasket to use?  I always stick with the one piece but it's been a while, is there a preferred brand?

Never had an issue with the Victor Reinz. Napa used to carry them try MS15958

Get one for an earlier V6. It'll be cheaper and won't have the hole for the EGR port to pressurize the intake.

The champion heads have that all filled in.

Looks like it goes all the way to 87 for whatever a VIN A is....

Look that gasket up at advance, vatozone, and Amazon and see what it'll be shipped to Canadia.   With any luck you might find a link that hasn't learned what a PIA it is getting over the border.

Adding the 13 percent sales tax here in Ontario brings it to almost to triple down there. I wasn't far off. You're getting the idea of how expensive it is even to drive one of these TR's up here...let alone race one.

so what happens if someone south of the border mails you a gasket?

Steve as long as it's labeled a "gift" with a $100 value most times it will pass right thru. My brother used to mail me stuff all the time altho that was a few years back.

I've decided to slowly convert my entire TFSA into US funds.  I bought Royal Bank in Feb. and I'm up over $1K US and the interest rates will be going up another 0.25% so that means even more profit for the banks!  And I'm getting a US credit card because the extra charge on that kills you too.  Before 2007 you paid 2% extra on the exchange rate in 2008 we were up to 10% extra on the exchange, now it is around 6%.  So you take that surcharge and add it to the surcharge of the credit card company or pay pal. :(

My pet peeve is why do I have to pay taxes on goods that are not available in Canada? :013:

So one like this will cost like hell to ship to Canada from New Jersey by the seller, but, it would be a lot more reasonable if some one close to the border bought it and mailed it to you?

There are parcel places at Pembina, North Dakota which is an hour drive.  They charge $5 per parcel, so sometimes depending on the cost it is still expensive with gas and pickup.  On the more expensive stuff it is definitely worth it!  And sometimes when they offer free shipping and you ask for a bill minus shipping people can't comprehend that, and keep telling you it includes shipping!  I always like paying extra taxes on shipping.

The bottom line for the TR guys up here is this. You better have a thick wallet...you better be able to wrench on it by yourself...you better be able to tune it by yourself...and you'd better not fukn blow it up.

I run the car at 22 PSI during the year with low/high gear 02's just under 800 and 4 degrees of low gear timing added. Whatever the car does...it does. I can't afford to go any faster.

Screw that. At $5 per hit, I'd buy a P.O. Box.  It could really save some money if you had neighbors go in with you that import stuff too.
