1987 TR...stock MAF. Car noses over at WOT...SES light blinks...but no MAL code thrown on the SM. Idle is smooth...but told AF numbers are unsteady. MAF crapped out?
-
Check the MAP sensor for leaks under boost as well
-
Need to know the maf numbers
-
And if I goes to 255 at w0t?
You can give it some taps with a screw driver handle and see if it stumbles but the scanmaster is much more accurate.
Probably time for a translator and new style maf(much more reliable).
-
I think most modern chips lock in to wot fueling around 235
-
actually, it looks like the TT5.7 locks to 255 when it sees wot.
Features
Chip Features for Version 5.7 for 86/87 Buick and 89 TTA:
-Fuel and timing curves recalibrated for improved driveability, cold starts, idle, faster spool. The intent is to maximize performance while reducing knock.
-User Adjustable features! - requires a scantool
-User adjustable wide open throttle fuel, +/- 20%, also adjust 1st gear WOT fuel independently +/- 20%
-User adjustable wide open throttle timing, +/-9° from default, 2 separate settings for low gear and high gear.
-Open loop idle for smoothness, idle BLM still has learning capability (not locked to 128).
-For alcohol injection, special timing curves to help reduce "transitional" knock.
-Variable timing based on mph and airflow, provides extra timing in the low/mid boost area.
-BLM lock at WOT to improve consistency.
-Shift light capability through the SES light if requested.
-False knock ignore capability for launch, turns off when preset mph is reached if requested.
-Antistall, helps prevent stalling and reversion through the MAF when lifting off throttle after boost, helpful with higher stall converters.
-MAF/LV8 locks on to 255 under wide open throttle conditions for consistency.
-MAF "Dropout" ignore
-Fan is programmed to come on a 166*F unless otherwise specified.
-Torque converter lockup at cruising is programmed for 45mph unless otherwise specified.

Need to know the maf numbers
Will call and get the MAF numbers today. Was gonna drop in...but the weather's sucking...agai n.
-
Headgaskets were just swapped...and engine refired...and this issue immediately cropped up. What might he have forgotten to plug in...or what vacuum hose could be off to cause this issue?
-
BLM's are 122 warmed up. Doesn't point to a vacuum leak.

I don't care for the "tap test" It can kill MAF's too especially the stock style ones. Just look at the data.

He has a ground stretcher for the PS head ground wires...and it was loose. Gonna try it tomorrow when it stops raining. Fingers crossed this is the culprit.
-
Generally by the time you get to tapping on a maf it is already toast. The taps just make it stumble and solidify that it is done. Plus I thought I was the last one running an original maf a year or so ago when it went south .
-
Update. With the 3 ground wires tightened and well grounded...the car now goes WOT flawlessly. Next problem. After a couple of runs...the 02's are reading 500's, 600's. 700's...KR is zero. These numbers are hitting recall after the run on the SM. Why are the readings skewed...cuz they ain't real. Basics are below. I have a spare ECM I can try this Sunday.
Fuel pressure is rising 1 for 1 with boost
CC's are moving at a good pace...which leads me to believe the 02 sensor is okay
Boost is 16 pounds with 94 pump gas
I'm assured the 3 ground wires are good and attached securely
He wants to race this car...so I need proper 02 readings to tune it.
