The Autozone battery in one of my Buicks lost a cell the other day. Date on the side said 2009 so I got pretty good life out of it.
The current 75s Gold top replacement from AZ is $119 here but it had a bit less capacity as is typical of summer type batteries which is not a bad thing. But, I thought I would look around and see if I could find a Sears Platinum which is actually the Odyssey battery with a Sears label on it. Enersys makes them and they have a good rep. Looks like Sears stopped carrying them last year, so, I kept looking.
I looked at Sam's and saw they listed an AGM battery with the Duracell name on it. I did not know they even had a car battery, but, research showed it is made by East Penn which generally has a good reputation. It had a bit more capacity (probably because it is an 34/78 group size) than the AZ battery and AGM can be pretty good in a car that is not started very often. Sam's had the 34/78 for $129 which was cheaper than most sizes so I bought it.
the 34/78 is about an inch longer than the 75 group size so I took a cut off wheel and cut the spacer off the tray on the radiator side and the battery sat down in the tray perfectly.
So far, so good. I would have rather had an Energizer battery but it did not come with a rabbit.

What car did you put it in?

AGM for $129 is a good buy!

That is a good deal Steve! Hope it turns out to be a great value!

I think East Penn and Johnson Controls make almost all the batteries between them.

You know what happens when you put the battery in upside down in the Energizer bunny?
It keep cumming and cumming and cumming....
See what Advance Auto has a good battery listed. They have a $40 or $50 oft cupon code online right now.

Damn Earl, how do you know about all these freebies and coupons?

Earl believes in using other people's money!
I got mad at Advanced because they did not want to warranty an Optima battery. too long a story to relate, but, I challenged her to see who could get a district manager on the phone first while the other customers stopped shopping to listen. In the end, she told someone to give me a battery and get me out of the store. The guy that took care of me told me she was a bitch and I had just made his day. :) He gave me a larger battery than I had brought in and I left smirking.
I did use a coupon and bought two cam sensors for about 60$ each later tho.
