I have my eye on a bone stock driver quality TType. How fast would it go with the following mods at 25 PSI on a 1.7X launch.
RJC Power Plate
60 LB Injectors and matching 110 TT race chip
44/49 with a .83 or .85 Precision exhaust housing
Off the shelf 2800 PTC NL convertor
LT1 MAF with Translator/CAI
AFPR
Right Rear air bag
Dutt neck welded to a stock SLIC
981 valve springs
Steve Monroe ported exhaust elbow
Hollowed out cat
255 LPH fuel pump and hotwire kit
Boost, KR and SM...and tuned with PL and NB
-
Just guessing here... Mid to high 11's
-
1.7 60 foot means you plan for good tires. So yeah, somewhere in the 11s. I'd do a 3000 stall with a clutch and lock it on the big end for more mph.
-
11.85
-
So you just looked at all the stuff sitting on your shelf and made a list?
-
At first i thought 11.7-8 but with only 25 psi I'm going to say 12 ohs . If you can get the 60 ft into the 1.50 range then I can see it in the 11s and more boost will also get you there. Gotta have it tuned well and a decent driver too.

With the exchange rate...this is gonna be on an extreme budget. The fuel pump and hotwire kit will be new...the rest...used. Rich...with the stock heads I don't think it would do much above 25 PSI. The 2800 convertor and the 44/49 with the big exhaust housing should be a perfect match...with low gear fuel/timing dialed in. Mike, if I were to go LU...it'd be a Precision 2800 multidisc...ot herwise an off the shelf 2800 PTC NL. I saw Brandon on Sunday...and he's a tuning wizard...but stays quiet. He went 11.01 at 123 with a 6131 on 21 PSI...pump gas...and a 1.73 launch...with a 2800 PTC NL convertor. Slip was minimal.
-
Well Brad, my combo is pretty much what your talking. Little larger turbo with the TE60. I'm thinking I'll break into the high 11's with a better 60' next year.

The exchange rate makes baby Jesus cry and many others!

5 hours of open practice April 15th at SMP! :)

I am guessing with stock heads, sweet spot will be 28 psi.

That's music to my ears. My 12.1 was at 24psi.......so a little room left yet

Seems my shit should be running 10s. http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/threads/te63-turbo-for-sale.435019/ (http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/threads/te63-turbo-for-sale.435019/)
Slowest. Car. Ever.

He runs tens but his name was forgotten? Yeah, I'm going with the ocean front property in Arizona. The things people post on internet boards.

Everyone says my car is slow too, but it does have a race weight of over 4000lbs so I know it is making power.

Hank Terry edged into the tens with a TE60 and he was not the first on a stock long block.

and look what Tim Stockwell did with a 61 turbo at 31 psi of boost.

Always wondered how much boost Dan was running when he edged into the nInes...bet you that it was way above what we consider the sweet spot for his turbo to be.

Most won't practice, test or put in the seat time like this gent did. Case in point. One of the young GTA lads earlier this year was boasting his car puts down 600 HP. He has more than I do. He showed up at SMP this year...and ran a 13.1 at 98...

With a 1.7 60ft it must be a peg-leg car

I sure hope I didn't tell him to buy my car 100 times... because that would be really disappointing - for him.

There was a kid around here that had an old TA with a built 455 in it...best sounding car I have heard in years with a big roller cam. Everyone said it ran low elevens and needed traction. He and his buddies caught me at the post office one day when I was driving my T which has a 44 on it. I got called out big time.
He wanted to go from a roll because he did not have slicks on it. We went from 40 mph. I had 10 links on him in an 1/8th of a mile. I suspect it was a 14 sec car. He was not spinning the tires, either.
It was on ebay three days later.
Moral is, don't believe what you hear-only what you see

Doesn't that equate more to 300hp he is putting down? Sounds like one of the Dyno guys in down who cranks up his dyno numbers so everyone leaves happy. One kid in an early 90's TA with a LT1 said he put down 400hp with just headers and CAI. He then ran a 14.1. Ran into some Mustang guys at a local car show and one guy with a 2000 Mach1 was saying how his bone stock Mustang put down 330hp. I asked him where he dynoed and told him my low milage car barely does that and will blow the doors right off his Stang!
-
I'd like to make it out to SMP this year and see you doing some of runs, just wish SMP and Picton werent' so bloody far from barrie.
I'd love to bring my car out someday but the stupid thing needs every bushing on it, the timing set is 30 years old, so are the valve springs, and injectors. Norbs alchy kit is still in the box he handed me cause I hadn't done the other stuff first. Figured it wasn't worth the fuel to drive down and find out that all that stuff needs replaced. Also I know brad I shoulda bought your 60's when you sold them.
Bought a house with a garage this time, so hopefully I can do some of that stuff this winter anyways.
-
Steve, I've read that 'Stockwell' story on gnttype a few times. Pretty amazing what these guys were able to accomplish. That write up doesn't go into much detail on the trans/converter. I know the article says stock trans and D5. I wonder if he was running a brake? Those are some nasty short times on stock stuff.......ev en with a slick. Maybe he was launching off the ebrake?
Never the less, pretty amazing shyte
-
I had a detailed write up that he published once...might still be on tb.com. I think he was using the handbrake. He did all the old racer tricks. vaseline on the front wheel bearings, indexed the plugs...lots of air in the front tires...
I remembered that after he finally wounded the heck out of it, everyone was calling him a liar and a cheater, so invited a bunch of people over and had a tear down party. It was what he said it was.
I think that was not long before the Stageright tranny brake came out...seems like he was putting all the hydraulic pressure to the rear and locking the ebrake....
When you read the gnttype write up, it is hard not to be shocked at how crude the cars were in those days
-
I was always blown away on the short times they pulled with a non adjustable chip. They had to be launching off the e-brake. Either way...kudos to them...cuz they didn't have the technology we enjoy today.

I gave those injectors and chips away at that price. :) Throw a set of 981's on that thing. If you have a compressor and Kirbans tool...let me know. I'll come up and change them with you. I've only done a couple dozen sets. :) I use over the counter timing sets...and grab yourself a new water pump. If you have trouble setting the cam sensor...call me. I can do it over the phone with you.
I'm fortunate SMP is only a half hour from me. It's an old outlaw track...but it's fun...and laid back. Mix N Match events are nice...cuz there's only 50-70 cars show up. Track prep wasn't bad at these events last year...and I'll put SMP up against any track for prep on a race day.
-
thanks Brad for the offer! Just over the counter timing sets? I know you have your motor apart it seems like once a year, do you find they are wearing much after a season of use? Sometimes info you read gets influenced so much by venders its hard to tell what myth from reality can be at times.

I've had this same timing set on the last engine...and I beat on it for 3 seasons. I just transferred it to this engine...and it was still snug. I run stock junk...works just fine. I'll text Joe for a part number for a timing set for you. Lift the hood on my car...and you'll fall asleep from boredom. :)
I had the other engine out of the car numerous times. Overboosted it...never did find the headgaskets. :) Piston pin came loose...scored a cylinder. Had it sleeved. Cracked a cylinder...had it sleeved. Cracked another cylinder...and tossed the block. Went to my original engine in July of 2014. So far...so good. :) Dan and I can have my engine out and sitting on a stand in an hour. I'm not joking.

thanks brad, appreciate the part number when you get it.

I'm a vendors nitemare. The majority of the stock junk is incredibly durable. I've gone 6.7 with a stock bottom end and Bison cracked the 9's with a stock short block. Alan aka Turbobitt has broken into the 8's with a stock coil pack and ignition module if memory serves. The ones that forget the basics...are the ones who get in trouble. Laugh at my engine compartment all you want...but the car runs hard every pass. :) Money well spent...is in these transmissions. :)
-
Couldn't agree more on beefing up the 200-4R.
Are you using the Cloyes timing set? I get mine from Orielly's. cloyes part number 9-1134

you guys that make the most outta what is there are always the most interesting posters.
I think that is why I have always been a fan of Steve and earl

Brother we have guy's up here that have 10 to 15 thousand dollars in there motor with the bolt on's and still run in 13s, Keep it simple. That's the way Brad keeps it.
