Does a high quality turbo blanket...like one from DEI quicken spool time? It holds heat in...so in theory...it should. Anyone?

Why do Turbine's inject water into the turbine section and not the compressor section for more power? :chin:

Like a gas turbine? I believe it reduces the amount of NOx in the exhaust

My brother works on turbines for a living and he said water is injected to lower the temp and thereby lowering the emissions. Lower temp equals less NOx.

I'd bet it does more to reduce underhood temps.

I'm hoping to have a little research time today at work, so maybe I can find some scientific data to post on this subject.
Here's my thoughts on it. If heat is what makes the turbine wheel spool it would lead me to believe that wrapping the heat source prior to entering the turbine housing is where the most benefit would come from. If the heat can't dissipate as easily prior to entering the exhaust and then the hot gases are allowed to expand a bit while entering the exhaust housing then that would lead me to believe that it would work in our favor.... I don't know... I have heard the whole it will cause a fire arguement.

What I found this morning...
Wrapping exhaust originated in NASCAR
One fella claims he has data logs proving that with the wrap on pre-turbo, he spooled 150 RPM's earlier
Lots of fires reported with the wrap
Header manufacturers will not warranty their product if it's been wrapped.
It has a strange smell after installation
I think I like ceramic but how do you coat just the outside???

My only experience with turbo blankets was a buddy put one on his new turbo performance difference was marginal if at all but the oil seal eventually let go just as the warranty expired on the turbo. Personally I think keeping all that heat in was part of the problem. Might be good for a race car but I wouldn't use one on a street car.
This was a brand new name brand turbo and they did not warranty it he only put about a thousand miles on it and no track time.

I would just coat the inside. No sense in heating the casting when you can keep the heat in there and working on the exhaust gases.
When were turbos allowed in NASCAR?

The idea of wrapping exhaust originated in the NASCAR scene. Somebody got the idea from them and carried it onto the street scene

Totally aware of that but I have thermal books that say they also use it to increase power, which I thought was weird, compressor side yes but I can't see it on the turbine side. Very well could be a mistake I have to dig it up again.
