The NHRA is butt-hurt and that is a fact. They have neutered the sport of drag racing and it is dying in their care. Street Outlaws, while fake as shit, is producing a better product and that impacts the NHRA's business. That said... Street Outlaws is projecting themselves to be something they are not, and in turn has naive people thinking that it is real - and street racing is stupid (spoken from first hand experience); and it was for this reason that the NHRA was created. Unfortunately the NHRA is too far from its roots and has lost touch with its fan base. Street Outlaws is fun to watch, and I will keep tuning in (because Winter is cold). Let the NHRA continue to posture as it is only increasing the popularity of the show.

I love street racing... in it's purest form. You're crusing around, someone breaks bad and you mop the floor with their ass....
Spending hours/days/weeks running off at the dick sucker using phrases like ''I'll drag you'', etc... makes me want to puke.
There's a difference between racing and bench racing.
And posturing is worse than both of them combined.

I found this interesting. An interview with Big Chief
http://speedsociety.com/nhra-banned-people-participated-street-outlaws/ (http://speedsociety.com/nhra-banned-people-participated-street-outlaws/)
Just seems the ihra will be able to pick up some new affiliate tracks.
-
I dunno. I get that even if it's scripted, they still don't want guilt by association. Personally, don't have a problem with people that go out to abandoned airstrips, industrial parks, or what not where they're not a menace to the general public.

Funny that hot rod has the nhra comments. Two dying entities trying to prop each other up.
Street racing was around long before the nhra and will be happening long after the nhra is gone.

Thanks for sharing that!
I wonder if the show and NHRA are both in on this for mutual gain through publicity?

I find the show very entertaining. No where near the street racing I did in my youth. I did find it funny that chief pretty much gave my stomping grounds credit for coming up with what they are doing. 20 yrs ago I wasn't in on any list but we raced in industrial parks as well as out side the city.
As Jerry Jones knows, there is no such thing as bad publicity. This is more talk about the nhra than there has been in the last decade combined.

I don't watch any of the car shows on TV because the money they throw at them is way beyond anything I can afford financially. I watch the live feed from Drag week in the fall...cuz with the exception of the unlimited class cars...the rest of the guys are bums like me...so I can relate. :)
-
There was a couple I liked where they'd go out and find cars, have a limited budget for a resto and that was it. I used to like the Gas Monkey show but wow...it went way over the top.

Half way through Season 2 of GMG... All the shows get big, and then crash hard. Hell, look at Jesse James - Jebus how the mighty have fallen.

Thanks, that is a pretty cool read. Nice to learn a little about "The Crow" too.
