Title: main clearance
Post by: larrym on November 20 2014, 01:59:46 PM
So when I was putting together my short block I was double checking the clearances and thought the center mains were a bit tight. .013 the front and rear measured .015.
I brought this to the attention of my machinist he asked if I had the heads bolted on when I checked it he did the line hone with the heads torqued on.

I just got my heads and plan tho use RJC gaskets to install should I bolt the heads on and double check if I had a set of used gaskets I would use them for this procedure.

Would hate to get the heads bolted on with the the sealant and crush these gaskets and have to get a new set.

Is there that much flex in these block that it would appear this tight without the heads?

that is toward the high end of factory specs....I normally set them at 0.0015" and don't want more unless I am planning on turning more than 6000 rpm

ahh yes a decimal point off by me .0013 and .0015.......

Should I be overly concerned about the centre mains being tighter without the heads on?
