Title: out of winter storage
Post by: Shimy87 on April 25 2014, 11:36:30 AM
What do you guys that have to put them away in the winter do when waking them back up? I have been in the habit of changing the oil in spring but I'm reading I should have been doing it when I put it away? Also I replaced the alky with windshield washer fluid for storage but that seems like a waste of time??

While I don't have to winterize my vehicles, both things make sense.

I would think it would be better to change the oil before parking it, get rid of any acids, or general nasty crap in the oil so it doesn't sit all winter with it.

I also think removing the alky is a good idea - it's flammable, and will evaporate of the months in storage.

I could be completely wrong though.

I usually Change oil, I have fogged the motor too depending on how long it will sit.  I usually fill the alky up to avoid condensation.  Tank is always filled and stabilizer added.  Pull the battery. You can lift the car off the tires, cover the exhaust so nothing gets in.  If your worried about mice, throw some moth balls around it and cover it up.
