Title: Knock sensor?
Post by: phil_long on May 08 2013, 06:55:43 PM
Hey guys, I had a code 43 pop up two weeks ago.  The SM was showing 13.4 KR in park and while driving.  I reset the ecm to see if my car was just being bitchy.  Code went away, and didnt show back up, until yesterday.  This time, it didnt go away. Lol.  I put the control module from NOS4GN back in my car, because I had it sitting and wanting to eliminate at least one possibilty.  Anyway to test knock sensor?  I did some reading on Steve's site.  Seen something about knocking on something to see if the knock sensor would pick it up, but im alone(i guess i could get my wife to help..) any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.  And 13.4 seems to be the special number the plastered on the SM for KR.   :x

Could try torquing it to spec. Not sure what it is offhand...but I'm sure someone will chime in.

Lol.  If this wasnt a real issue I'd laugh a lot more than I am right now.  That was good though.  Lol

Pretty sure it only gets torqued to something like 14lbs.

Will double check & letya know when I find it.

Maybe those are metric pounds

When it asks is the scan holding steady for knock, it doesn't reference a specific number does it?  In park would normally hold steady at 13.4.  After I started beating crap, it started fluctuating.  Maybe I bumped the knock sensor itself in the process.

After telling you to use that...I think that is referring to an old gm scan tool and is not referring to degrees of retard.

Maybe go to the bottom of the page and looks at the diagrams and check the wiring?

Good news.  I found the issue.  I found a bad splice(remember I bought a whole new ECM harness from Caspers).  I figured this after replacing the knock sensor and the control module.  :hmm  The good that came of this was I installed the control module I got from NOS4GN and now the car pulls even harder throughout the whole gear(still plan on doing valve springs).  Thank you guys for your patience and help as always.  Good day gents

Glad it was a simple fix...and watch how hard it pulls when you swap the valve springs.

Look forward to it.  I dont think I tightened the knock sensor enough though.  Im getting more knock than usual, even on pulls that don't really get into boost.

over tightening usally causes it to show more knock.  14 ft lbs is barely more than hand tight

Oh damn.  It's def tighter than more than a hand tight that's for sure.  I need to get this torque wrench calibrated.  I'll loosen it up a bit.  Thanks Steve
