Title: Grand nationals could return

looks way to European to me.  but I figure the chance that I'll actually like whatever version gm will actually put out will be slim to none.

course if it rips up the concrete, I may not care that much about looks.  just needs to be roomy

I dont see it happening, we love them but 90% have never even heard of a GN. That being said, a 4 door, come on. The revived camero would have been a wild sucess if it was revived as a 4 door :rolleyes;

With the success the buick has been having in the asian market, and I'm assuming still doing ok here in the states, I can see the buick marketing team wanting to take another go for a buick muscle car.
I don't know how well these new little t charged regals are selling, but I never see them anywhere.
If they brought back a recognizable name that I'm assuming they still own the rights to (gs, t type, gnx, gsx, grand national), and put it on a mid size or full size performance buick, it might do well, if it looks cool and performs, even if it is a 4 door, as much as I hate to say it.
I would think for it to be a hit, its gonna have to be a new platform with lotsa retro cues to the buicks that had muscle in the past.  and not slapping the badges on another audi or opel copy.

but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if some idiots on the buick team decides to put "gnx" on a suv and tries to pass it off to the public  :rolleyes;

Is that 2.0 liter motor the same as the Solstice motor?

Looks like it.

I like the rear drive - I don't like that even the entry T is a 4cyl.

If It has the Solstice motor, that no mudane motor:

The heart of the Solstice GXP is the Ecotec 2.0-liter turbo engine, GM's first direct injection offering in North America . It produces 260 horsepower (194 kw) and 260 lb.-ft. of torque (353 Nm),* making it GM's highest specific output engine ever, at 2.1 horsepower per cubic inch of displacement (130 hp / 97 kw per liter), and the most powerful production engine in the Ecotec family.

A dual-scroll turbocharger with a lightweight turbine provides nearly instant power, and an air-to-air intercooling system boosts the turbo’s performance by reducing inlet temperatures. Dual cam phasing complements the turbocharging system by optimizing valve timing at lower rpm for best turbo response and quick access to engine torque.

Direct injection technology helps the Ecotec engine produce more power while maintaining the lower fuel consumption of a small displacement port-injected engine.

I know. 4 cylinder motors have come a long way.

But - anything with these nameplates should have at least a V6.

Gm has used the 2.2 that produce ~400 hp NA very easy with factory parts. And even higher, iirc over 1800 from the block. This was back in year 2000 or there about. L850 engine iirc.

This is the catalog I got some years ago, have a read starting around page 30.

It's not all about power. It's about provenance.

You really believe that it has to be a Buick designed engine? Interesting.

Wasting energy arguing apples and oranges while in the meantime the only pride left at the General is Union pride which is the heartbeat of that company now. Each to his own but I'll never buy a new GM/UAW automobile. They suck.

If you're really gonna bring back the GN nameplate, it seems it would have to be the same as it was in the 80's: during a lame performance market. A company took the chance and did something extremely different for the time period. The technology today is so overwhelming the opportunity  isn't there. All efforts are gonna be nostalgic only. So, if you are gonna do it, retro the original body, glue GN on it,  Direct Inject it and give it the most advanced turbo V6 it can handle. With ECM advancements that have been made I can't help but think they could build another monster. The downfall is, today is not really another lame performance market.
