Title: Best spot to tap for boost gauge?
Post by: smokin-6 on July 02 2012, 03:16:15 PM
What is the best place to tap for my boost gauge? I have ALKY and right now the line from the dog house (the port next to the PCV line) is tee'd, one goes to inside of the car and the other goes to the MAP sensor. I always worry if the T fitting would leak or break that could spell disaster. How do you all have it??Thanks

i could put up a pic later, but i have mine Teed off closer to the passenger side going to the MAP sensor.  Zip tie it and call it a day

what is wrong with the current location?  What disaster are you hoping to avoid?

I have my setup the same way. The straight portion of the Tee should be going to the map sensor.

To prevent leaking some use zip ties... Personally I dislike them and prefer to use stainless wire. One full wrap and use the twist pliers. Looks great but sucks when you draw blood from the pig tails when messing around under the hood.

If the line popped out of the tee, the MAP sensor sees 0 boost and stops spraying ALKY but you were at 20 lbs of boost, that's what I'm hoping to avoid.

Do most have the "T" method or do some have two separate places-one line for boost gauge-one for MAP? Maybe I"m too paranoid :icon_confused:

You are too paranoid :)

Not sure how you are going to connect it other than a tee.  Guess you can drill a hole in the plenum, tap it, and screw a hose barb into it.  Most of us insert a tee and add a zip tie on all three ends to add insurance to prevent the hose from slipping off the barbs.   Just as we do on the fuel pressure regulator, vacuum block hoses, etc.  If the hose pops off the fuel pressure regulator, you have a  worse situation than if it pops off the alky controller.

The two most common places to insert a tee are in the map line and the charcoal canister line before the check valve, of course.

I suppose if you no longer use the egr you could tie Into the vacuum line their before the check valve.
