I went out & started to try the AC to see whats up. R-12 is full & you can see that the system is trying to turn on because the fans will try to start every few seconds. Then I remembered last year at BPG the AC Cycling Switch on Accumulator needed to be unplugged & hotwired to work. When we got back i put in some R-12 & it worked fine. I changed that switch about 3-4 years ago. Just now I went to look at NOS4GN for one $21 & remembered I have a new polished Accumulator & Switch I got maybe 4-5 years ago. Totally forgot I had the switch sitting on the shelf. The problem is finding a shop to remove & save my R-12 so I can swap in the Polished parts. maybe i'll start checking around?
Anyways my question is Any ideas why the switch would go bad (if it's the issue) after only 4 years??
-
Not sure that is the problem, but, Made Elsewhere would be my guess

Are just gonna swap switches around to see if it works. I think it's on a schrader?

Thats the plan later today or tomorrow. I'll keep ya posted on what happens?

why swap...just jump the terminals in the connector...if the compressor runs, you know the switch is bad, or the pressure is low

I'm just swapping the switch for now since freon is good & jumping the terminals makes it work fine. I'm not swapping accumulator until down the road sometime.
I just can't drive a car without AC or I'll go nuts!

I understand what Steve is saying but sometimes just the goofiest stuff happens.

It's what David is saying that is confusing. If he put a jumper in it last summer, why isn't it working now? Did he remove the jumper and leave it unworking last year?
-
Steve maybe I misremembered?? :player:
I had a jumper in at BPG but later on at home in the fall I tried the normal hookup & the AC worked. Maybe due to cooler weather or just a fluke?
Yesterday I jumped it again & it was fine, so today I put in my shiny new Cycling Switch & it's fine. For whatever reason that switch from 3-4 years ago died on me?
It was a GM part from Glen but for $20 each no big deal.

maybe if you drove it more often....these things would not happen... :D
