is there an adjustment on it that will help with partial throttle knock? example; 2nd gear half throttle with around 8-10 lbs boost SM will show up to 2 of knock. Or even roll into the throttle quickly up to maybe 3/4 throttle and I always get some knock. right now base knob is set to 3 and wot is set to 5.
Thanks again guys!!!

What are you reading the knock off a guage or a Scanmaster?
-
SM

I don't know much about the Translator but I have the Gen 2 unit that allows for many adjustments. if your sure it's real knock & not from old motor mounts, dp hitting etc then maybe you can use your chip to adjust fuel or just turn the boost down? I think the 5.6 version chip has the timing/fuel options? I know the 6.0 does along A/F tracking.
-
I could be wrong but I think the adjustments in the chip for timing and fuel are just WOT settings. I thought I read somwhere before that you can do some partial throttle tuning with the translator settings?? Maybe not
-
don't think so...and you should not need to play with part throttle
I suspect it is hearing something other than detonation assuming you have good injectors in the car...there should not be enuf load on the engine to cause real detonation if the parts are good...and two degrees at that low level is not significant. Oil is not very high octane and pumping oil into the engine does not help anything.

I did some reading on the full throttle site and figured I'd try something and see. I turned the base knob from the 3 setting to 4 ( =10% rich at idle is what the directions said) And it has stopped the issue, I did several tests from various speeds at various partial throttle positions with boost ranging from 8-14lbs and no knock readings ever. It actually seems to run great here.
Yes, I still have to tear in and check but any oil getting in aint helping
I'll figure out this car yet :D Thanks guys!
-
so what are your blms at idle and at part throttle now?
-
range between 110 and 120
-
so the chip is now pulling out the fuel you put in as it sees it as way too rich

Drove it in to work today and watched BLM all the way, after warmed up at idle and at 60 MPH cruise BLM was 119. The did some partial throttle with boost runs and no knock. Then I switched it back to 3 setting on translator and BLMs stay at 128. Did same partial throttle runs on the same stretch of highway and SM showed some knock, once as high as 3.2
I know what you mean that the chip is correcting the translator setting at 4, but knock is bad also so I dont know what I should leave it at? If I was pushing it with 19 LBS of boost I would just turn boost down and be good but I'm only running 15lbs, and that is only in first gear, drops to 12lbs for 2nd and 3rd.
Getting frustrated because partial throttle acceleration is the norm in regular driving, I dont punch it through the floor away from every intersection or when I pass someone.
Thanks for the help, I know my questions get tiresome :icon_redface:
-
you getting knock when it shifts of just under load?
-
just under load, example; I wait til it shifts into second and then roll into the throttle building 8-12 lbs boost, maybe 3/4 throttle and then I get the knock readings.
-
what are your o2s at this point?
-
Its not consistant but a range from 790 to 810 when I'm in boost at partial throttle. I dont know what they read exactly when knock is happening, SM dosent record cause I'm not WOT
Drove quite a bit today watching BLM and it is very constant at 119 while driving, 121 when sitting at a light
Made a WOT run and no knock, lowest recorded O2 was 808 at 96MPH.....when I lifted
-
when knock occurs is what is important. But if you are happy with it, it does not matter :)
-
I'll try to determine when it happens, what O2's are. Is 119 for BLM a bad thing, or is it just telling me the chip is taking out some fuel.
Not having the alarm go off all the time makes me happy :)
Thanks alot for the help!!

it says there is too much fuel at that cell and the ecm is working hard to remove it
