I was reading a tech thread on the other board. The gentleman was having a lean condition. Turned out he had the MAF (LS1) upside down for some reason. When he put it in the correct position...his fueling returned to normal. Why does the MAF go out of wack...if it isn't clocked correctly?
-
Buicks can't read upside down air
-
Okay.
-
I don't think that really matters.
-
Its a heated wire/foil sensor so I expect you can mess up the thermal dissipation thus the reading in certain positions.
I would expect 90 deg and 270 to be the worst assuming the standard locn has the heated element horizontal.
-
Horizontal...f or the win.
-
Joking aside I don't think the position matters to the MAF. But if it get turbulent air from the fan or elsewhere it will as with any MAF.
-
This will make for good water cooler discussion today. :)
-
maf clocking, cow tipping....it's all relevant to someone.
-
maybe he had it backwards....

maybe he had it backwards....
Now that is funny.

Not funny at all..only been about two months since someone approached me because their car did not run right....and the answer was...turn the maf around so the arrow points toward the turbo

Ok have to admit that sarcasm is hard to get across on the net.

Laminar flow vs. turbulant air explained:

Which is why we have "MAF screens" in our stock MAFs. I recently replaced the stock MAF screens in our LSX cars with inserts from this company:
Saxonpc.com Airflow Straightener Demo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNExOgtLt2w#)
Larger cells in the screen = better flow and same results as the stock small cell honeycomb.
Keeping a screen in the MAF will help ensure that MAF keeps reading correctly.
