2500.00 for a complete low mile trans and motor - just north of me.
I don't NEED a spare motor.. but...

good deal
go for it :icon_lol:
-
you got a place to put it and the money, go for it
-
Don't do it. Think how much ZDDP you can buy with $2500.00.
-
LOT's of "woulda, coulda, shoulda's " for me.. Been burned on a LOT of motors. Now IF I get one I figure it for parts just in case it's a shitter.
-
It's low mileage and in good shape. If you're got the room get it and then you have a running spare you can put in if you blow something up.
-
costing you $2,500 will turn into at least $7,000 before its all over with.
your money will be much better off buying my headers :chin:

You have an agenda, I cannot trust your judgement. :P

And.. the transmission in the 87 T has never worked right - won't shift at WOT, slips like crazy. I am talking to him, and he says there's only 3k on the trans since rebuild. So - I would either need to get the existing trans rebuilt, or use this one.
I added up just the turbo, converter, heads and injectors - used they are worth ~1k together, if not more. I could put the 60's in the 87 T. I doubt I would use the turbo or converter. I don't think I will put the heads on the GN motor.Looks like it has a heated O2 - Not sure I have a use for it though.
I could use the headers and turbo shield on the new motor, and other miscellaneous pieces.
I am probably going to buy it, it looks like I have done a good job talking myself into it. :hmm
-
Just use the trans and stuff you want and sell the engine?
-
Just use the trans and stuff you want and sell the engine?
I can do that too.. But - if it is indeed a ~16k motor - it would be good to keep around. :)
-
I would check the bearings and timing chain...might be 216,000

But would you keep it so long that it wouldn't be any good? Sell it.

"IF" is a very big word :player:

i was inclined to say something very close.
buy it as a core
and it only took for me to get beat once :013:
-
I don't have any plans of installing it in a car.
I am probably going up Sunday to look at it. :icon_madu:

I need a good portion of the parts, and plan to sell/store the rest.
I sent a deposit today - Going to look at it Sunday.
-
I am going up there tomorrow night to look at it, and probably bring it home. :)

All LC2's need a loving home.

You are both black?
or both pots?

Here's a hint:
One is a pot, and one is a kettle.
-
Look who's calling the kettle black? if I remember the old saying. I bet ALL TR Buick owners are parts hoarders out of necessity.
-
I have too much crap - and will start selling parts off once I get the GN up and running, tuned, etc.
Shipping is so damn expensive though.
-
You are both black?
or both potty?
I fixed it.
-
hahahaha... I have been very good not buying "stuff". BUT I still have a lot of junk .. Its not worth anything in this great economy so its gathering dust at this point.. prob still have 8/10 motors an trannys. :rolleyes; never mind the 20X60 attic packed to the gills :player: it is a disease !!!
-
Dan invests. Different from hoarding

That's what all the hoarders say.

I think you need some help Dan. :add_wegbrech:

How much for the microwave????
-
I bought it.
I didn't buy it right - I should have at least pulled a valve cover or did a compression check before I paid - but it all looks pretty good.
Oh well. So I fiddled with it a bit yesterday, separated the trans from the motor - Like I said above - everything looks good.
Some good things I saw that makes me think this is a well cared for ~16k motor:
Mobil1 oil filter
dielectric grease used on spark plugs
New OEM GM motor mounts
Heads look really clean - but they were allegedly reworked.
Pulled a valve cover - all looks good. What are the yellow lines on the pushrods? Aftermarket? Pics below.
It has a Power Plate, and a heated o2. Are they worth running? I have a new Denso for the GN motor that's on the stand.
There's a pic of the fuel lines I trashed transporting the motor. :x.
Trans input shaft and what not looks good, there's evidence it was rebuilt (Clip retainer on front pump seal, etc)
I guess once it's on a stand, I can do a compression check, etc.
Driver's side header looks to be repaired with a large gusset. They took the time to reweld the heat shield back on.

we have discussed the value of the PP too many times to discuss it any further...
No, imo, on the heated o2 due to its reluctance to code properly.
What brand is the converter? Art Carr?
Looks very well maintained. You may have done very well on this buy

I was just stating what it has - I like RJC Power plates. :)

That's what I thought. Going into the fast-growing SELL pile..

Precision Vigilante 3200 stall, single disc lock up, I was told about 3k miles on it.

i am feeling better about it - but I am still kicking myself for not checking most of this BEFORE i forked over 2500.
thanks!

The trans is going in the 87 TR very soon - I drove it hard this weekend, the installed trans is on it's very last legs. It never shifted right since I owned it, and slipped alot - but it never bothered me as much as it does now..
Mark Martone rebuilt it - I think it was the first time - either way, I still love him. the boat I swapped with him for the car had a rotten transom I didn't know about - I think we're square. :p
I need to message him on Facebook - Good friend..
-
In my defense, I researched the guy selling it, he had a decent history of posts with this motor - and seems to have a high level of attention to detail.

Says he went 11:30 with this combo.
Has anyone heard of a trans shop called "JIMMY'S" out of Mundelein, IL?
-
Mark was a really nice guy. Too bad he faded from the Buick scene. The converter looks just like my three clutch version which was from AC, but, at the time, aC and Precision were owned by the same company and were both building the converters. Same color as mine so I guessed AC.
Think that converter was going for about $850 at the time, but, I might be wrong.
Think your money was well spent if nothing other than the tranny works...you know what a tranny job costs

Looks like the guy he said rebuilt it knows BRF trannys..

If Jimmy built it, it is a damn good tranny. His rep is outstanding and has been for many years.
Bout what I said I thought it cost.
-
I think you got a good deal...
-
But what are the colored strips on the pushrods? 1 of each, black and yellow.
-
Maybe low mile stockers?

Engine appears to be clean...in and out. Heard lots of good things about Jimmys transmissions off the other board. Those convertors ain't cheap...and have a low slip percentage when locked...bout 5%. Ya' done good.
-
Well - we installed the recently purchased transmission in the 87 T over the last 2 nights. Finally broke down and bought a trans jack from Harbor Freight. How the hell did I ever install a trans without one? Still a PITA.
I have to say.. WOW. This thing shifts HARD. Barks 2nd just as hard. I think I need to adjust the TV cable - but boy, this is an entirely different car now. :)
I am worried about the u joints and such now. Now to fix the exhaust leaks, and turn up the boost!
My son wrenching on it (Yes, it's on jackstands - they are behind the front wheels) The floor jack is there for added insurance...
It's fun to watch him work, figure things out, etc.

so it did not work right?

Definitely. One of the side affects of working from home. :p

No the trans works great!

given the price of a tranny rebuild and converter, you are almost even on this deal already

I do need to adjust the TV cable.. Snaps your neck when it shifts.
